Funding the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July committee will need quite a few fundraisers (they do sell liquor on the Fourth of July in Peacock Park to raise money) since the BID (Business Improvement Committee) Special Events and Marketing sub-committee turned them down for additional funding at last Tuesday's BID meeting.

Currently the BID provides $9500.00 for the event, which is stipulated to only go to the fireworks fund and nothing else. The total cost of fireworks is $11,500.

This seems fair since the Fourth of July Committee, which is run by the Grove Chamber, does hold fundraising events (like t-shirt sales and liquor sales and networkers) and also sells sponsorships for the day, so money for funding should come in that way, especially from sponsors like beer companies and such.

The City is broke this year, so many fees that are usually waived may not be this year like the stage for performances, the clean-up crew, police presence and so on.

Anyone interested in being a sponsor for the Fourth of July should contact the Chamber office at 305.444.7270 or info@coconutgrove.com.
