Local wins Academy Award
Long time Grovite, Ric O'Barry, was one of the winners at Sunday's Oscars ceremony. He won an Academy Award, for Best Documentary, with Louie Psihoyos and Fisher Stevens for The Cove, which premiered in the Grove last March. The film is about whale slaughter for the sake of sushi. You may remember some of the bloody scenes and the killing of dolphins in the process. Here is the story in the New York Times about the Oscar win and the documentary.
Above are Ric and Flipper, back in the 1960s, Ric was one of Flipper's trainers and he was also the "token celebrity" in the 1983 King Mango Strut because he had been an underwater stuntman in the movie "Thunderball."
