What's going on at the Film Office?
I was with Harry the other night, he didn't say a word.
I was also told by Robert Parente, that he of course wants to keep the job, and is willing to work for half his salary for about two years, and the Miami Today report confirms this.

Maybe Harry is in a "Cone of Silence" - if he is, it is the first time!
That would be refreshing. Harry has always been a die-hard Grovite. I wonder what he could do there.
Why replace a guy who's good at his job, willing to do it for sooo little money, and well respected both in the industry and in the community.
The only thing I know Harry for is his comments on here, which range from occasionally useful to not.
Harry could maybe, if in the City's employ, be able to cancel the Marlin's Stadium Deal. You think?
City of Miami Film Office Manager ~ Designee
Harry Emilio Gottlieb:
Mr. Gottlieb:
Congratulations on your pending appointment to the City of Miami's Film Office. As you know in the State of Florida there is a bill before the Legislature, Senate Bill 1430 and companion House Bill 697 that will take effect July 1 if passed. It is my understanding that this legislation will boost state incentives from this year's $10.8 million covering a few projects to $75 million in annual tax credit and the House bill will make qualified film and video productions eligible for tax credit equal to 20% of actual qualified spending. Off season filming, certified feature films, independent films, commercials, or television series or pilots could get an extra 5% tax credit.
As the Director of the Film office are you in favor of these bills and what will your office do to see that these bills are passed and also see to it that the City of Miami receives a majority of this money. Also what is your position on 'Burn Notice's continued use of the Expo Center?
Again Mr. Gottlieb congratulations on your new position and success in bringing State money to the City of Miami.
Congratulations, Harry! We are all counting on you to do a great job!
I would be suspect of anyone willing to work at half salary 2 years. Either that person is way overpaid, or has some kind of money coming in from another source... or, hey, maybe he married a rich woman or won the lottery. I don't know. Certainly, I would be worried.
I could imagine a situation where he would make a percentage of any additional revenue he brings in after a benchmark, though. That would be good business.
Well it can't be that Mr. Gottlieb is going in making what the former employee made - that would be ridiculous.
So if the City is replacing Parente, don't they have to post the job opportunity for 30 days so that qualified candidates can apply? Or has the new administration done away with that little practice and just appoints whomever it wants?
What exactly are Mr. Gottlieb's credentials? I am only familiar with his obsessive anti Sanchez rants that often appeared in this blog during the mayoral race.
I am willing to bet Mr. Parente was a Sanchez supporter, and that is why he's out and Gottlieb is in.
11:02 Says 'that would be ridiculous' Come on....isn't it pretty ridiculous that the current man is being replaced with Harry Gottlieb?
Civil Service Regulations...Pleazzzzzzzzzzze!
SArnoff and Tommy boy don't have to follow rules. C'mon, you guys have to know that by now. They do one thing, say another, and no media outlet cares enough to report on it.
To work at half the former salary is very questionable, however the perks must have been very nice. Wine n dine the starlets. Trips not necessary, paybacks from vendors, and the list will be unveiled.
Harry will drive the film business away. Sorry but it's true he has no experience in this field and he can be over persistent (That's being kind)
11:34 - *overly persistent (that's good grammar) but I agree that experience, industry contacts, and industry knowledge are key for this positino. I have no idea of Harry's qualifications.
Allow me to respond to the ridiculous comments of the misinformed (my response in caps) "...I would be suspect of anyone willing to work at half salary 2 years... Either that person is way overpaid..." OVERPAID? I WAS THE LOWEST PAID DIRECTOR IN THE CITY...I LEARNED THAT SOME SECRETAIES MADE MORE THAN ME...ONE ASSISTANT TO THE CITY MANAGER MAKES $118,OOO, ANOTHER $124,000!
"...Certainly, I would be worried..." WHY? HAVEN'T YOU HEARD OF PUBLIC SERVICE??
"...I could imagine a situation where he would make a percentage of any additional revenue he brings in after a benchmark, though. That would be good business..." GREAT IDEA. LET'S START WITH THE $250,000. THAT BURN NOTICE PAYS THE CITY, AND THE 18 MILLION IN LOCAL SPENDING (23 MIL. OVERALL)
"...To work at half the former salary is very questionable, however the perks must have been very nice..." PERKS? WHAT PERKS? AVERAGE WORK WEEK: 60 HOURS; WORK WEEK MEANS SAT. AND SUNDAYS, AVAIABLE 24/7
"...Wine n dine the starlets..." SORRY TO SAY THIS, BUT WHOEVER WROTE THIS IS A MAROON, AS BUGS B. WOULD SAY; REALLY, THIS IS AN ABSURD STATEMENT.
"... paybacks from vendors, and the list will be unveiled..." I WISH THE PERSON WHO WROTE THIS HAD THE GUTS TO POST THEIR NAME.YOU CALLED ME A CROOK, AND I'D LIKE TO SLAP YOU WITH A DEFAMATION LAWSUIT, YOU COWARD. BELIEVE IT OR NOT,THEIR ARE MANY CITY EMPLOYEES WHO DO THEIR JOBS HONESTLY AND WITHOUT REMOTELY TAKING ANYTHING NOT DUE THEM. I NEVER TOOK A GIFT, TRIP ETC ETC FROM ANYONE!!
I loved my job and understood what being a Public Servant meant. Simple as that.
I nominated Robert Parente for the Golden Coconut Award this year due to all of his community service to Coconut Grove. The list of his community involvement is long and impressive.
In addition to that his devotion to Coconut Grove through his tenure as the Director of Film and Cultural Affairs.
Because of Robert the Grove hotels, restaurants, retail establishments as well as Shell lumber and local catering businesses have enjoyed the increased business from Burn Notice and Marley and Me, both filmed in the Grove.
It saddens me that some people use this blog to defame good citizens and then have the privilage to sign anonymous. Shame on them!
I think it is cowardly and mean spirited.
I wish Robert the best of luck, and please let us know where you land. The Grove is eternally grateful to you for all you have done for us.
As for his replacement, and I will not speculate whether it is Mr. Gottleib or another person, also I wish you luck. You will have big shoes to fill and we hope you will care for the Grove as much as Robert Parente did.
This job opening should have been posted and advertised.
Bottom line: there should not have been a vacancy to even advertise because the right man had that job.
