The Village Council is a Nomadic group

vc
The Village Council is in the dark. Literally. They have been meeting at the auditorium at Ransom Everglades Middle School, which is beautiful, but there is one problem -- the mic never works right and the council is sitting up on stage in the dark, while the audience is brightly lit. Shouldn't it be the other way around? They may have their next meeting elsewhere next month.

City Hall is still not making a move on allowing the Village Council back to meet in the chamber there, they still are claiming they are trying to work out a meeting schedule where all neighborhood groups can share the space. Of course we all know that the majority, if not all neighborhood groups don't want to meet in City Hall before the glare of the tv cameras. They like to keep their meetings to themselves, they don't even like when I mention anything here about their goings on let alone a whole tv audience.

City Hall keeps pushing papers around and according to a Village Council member who has been asking for a decision, they are too busy to make one now. So for the time being and who knows, maybe forever, the Cocoanut Grove Village Council will meet outside City Hall Chambers and the tv cameras, which is a shame because they deserve to be treated better.

The Village Council has been treated like a bunch of nobodies just because they've refused to be bullied by Commissioner Sarnoff.

He's not even trying to hide the fact that he won't even consider any of their recomendations on any village issues since the 5-2 vote on the 3:00am-5:00am debacle.

The irony runs deep here. When Marc was using the VC as a platform to further his own political aspirations it was the most important governing body in the state of Florida. Now that this liar is currently the puppetmaster for the entire city (Chair of the Miami City commission, Chair of the DDA, Chair of the BID, etc. etc. etc... ) he feels as though he pretty much can do whatever he feels like, and he is.
He's a very dangerous man...

I got a call from the city yesterday saying that they would let us have our April 15th meeting at city hall. When I inquired whether we could have more meetings, he said there were no procedures yet in place for reserving the chambers. At least we have one scheduled, hopefully they'll get their act together and issue the guidlines soon.
Fortunately, Ransom has been great about letting use their facilities and we really appreciate it. They've been great Grove neighbors.

It's probably a good idea for the VC to meet elsewhere than Papa Sarnoff's City Hall. The Grove's Village council is here to represent the specific desires and interest of our Coconut Grove Village, which are often at odds with the City's own motives and deeds. Not that the VC doesn't have to work with the City to have our voices heard, but each time I enter City Hall for some obscure reason I feel like a traitor.. j/k.
More often than not, the City does what is more convenient for THEM, regardless of the opinion of the vast majority of Grove people, well represented by the Village Council.
As far as the TV media tool to divulge or even promote our Village Council's resolutions, there are alternative, effective tools, such as this popular blog, maybe a modest publication, the Herald and Miami New Times also like to hear about any vibrant Grove issue. Why not just fix the lights and microphones in any convenient venue, shouldn't be too hard or expensive; the air at City Hall somehow feels polluted at times. . CI

Carlos, like it or not the City of Miami collects taxes from us, provides services and has the power to make laws that affect us. They are not our enemy. The best situation is when we can work well together. I can tell you with absolute certainty there were benefits to our being at City Hall. First, there are residents who actually do watch Channel 77 and were informed by the broadcasts about what is going on in the Grove. Second, a lot of elected officials and City administration employees keep the tv running in their offices and were aware of issues relating to the Grove because of the tv broadcasts.

Pat, that's great news! Hopefully they'll make it a standing appointment, but I won't believe it until I see it.

Ok Michelle, I stand corrected, since City Hall with the TV coverage is the best venue for VC meetings, it's only fair that they let you guys, Coconut Grove representatives, meet on a regular basis. Are they overwhelmed, booked with numerous events every night? Nah.. Are the logistics and operational costs a severe issue for a few meetings? How many other "groups" need, request and use City Hall? (Since that seemed to be the big issue--i.e: "equal opportunity for all"--)

There's probably tons of red tape and/or masked motives plus the usual dose of ineptitude involved in these slow, inexplicable processes. City Hall is in the middle of Coconut Grove, for whatever illogical reasons. They should at least let our local VC representatives use it once in a while for a few hours, as a courtesy gesture if nothing else. CI

Grape,
I highly doubt you have been following the Shenandoah or Shorecrest or The Roads, Flagami, little river etc homeowners associations meetings.

Because I have talked to them. And yes they want to meet @ city hall

Does anyone think some of the Village Council members ran because they thought they would have face time on TV and now they are bummed? Great on Apr. 15 you can either do your taxes or listen to the Village Council.

Mayor Regalado sets the new policy.

I would like to see all the neighborhood groups on TV. There are taxpayers throughout Miami.

Frankly, the Village Council meetings were getting a tad boring. Too many member playing to the cameras?

Pretty difficult for the Council to have been "play(ing) to the cameras" since the new Council has been shut out of city hall since elected and have never been televised.
It's no problem for the Coucil, they're at all the meetings. The residents and business owners of Coconut Grove are the ones being screwed out of the ability to stay informed of the Council's activities and the Grove in general. Why don't you try letting city hall know that you don't appreciate it.

The merchants don't even belong to the Merchants Group - they are not coming out to Village Council meetings and never have.
