Stars vs Studs event held at Peacock Park
Doug Flutie, center, and his sports pals came out for the Stars vs Studs sporting event in Peacock Park yesterday afternoon. The sports stars competed with everyday athletes, playing games like tug-o-war, running relays and such.
Here is Doug on this blow up contraption, that they had time trials on, the fastest relays of course, won. Ironically, the studs in white, not the stars, did a lot of the winning.
There were bleachers and cheerleaders and it was a fun afternoon for the crowd, who all got in free. The event was organized to raise money for the Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital.
Money was raised through a silent auction with lots of memorabilia, not just sports collectibles, but signed movie posters and other items. Also money was raised through food and drink concessions.
Today, February 6, the fun continues with a Tag Football Game at Peacock Park with the 8th Annual SPP Sports Celebrity Flag Football Challenge from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Players on the schedule include Doug Flutie, Louis Murphy, Darnell Dockett, Richard Marshall, Mike Jenkins, Bryant McFadden Allen Rossum, Eddie Drummond, Matt Roth and many others. Players listed here are subject to change.
There will also be a kids scrimmage, and halftime performance by Doug Flutie's band, and kids' concessions will be at the park, too.
Entrance to the park is free, but food and drinks are available for sale, also the silent auction items will be up for grabs again.
