Nightmare traffic problems on South Bayshore

street1
If you have an hour to kill and want to go out of your mind, take a trip down South Bayshore Drive any day from about 9 am to 4 pm. For some reason, the fools at the new Villas de Vizcaya on Hiawatha have seen fit to screw up the street, so they have had to dig up the street at the intersection of Hiawatha and S. Bayshore and do some sewer work, which they are now making their life's work.

Every day, the street is shut down and traffic is backed up for about a mile in either direction and it winds up 17th Avenue, back to US1. No joke. The intersection of 17th and S. Bayshore is a parking lot all day.

The guys directing traffic do not know how to make it flow and even ambulances are stuck in traffic and are not making it to Mercy Hospital as fast as they should. They are literally at a stand still.

Why is the City not involved and why are the morons working on the project not told to be there 24/7 and weekends until it is fixed. They actually work a six or seven hour shift each week day (no weekends) and then close up shop, leaving the mess for the next day and so on and so on. It's a never ending traffic blocker and no one seems to care.

Sounds like you need to live in New York, you will come running back and thanking those "morons" for their hard work.

I don't blame the workers, the project manager should have had this job done right away since it blocks traffic all day for over a week now. I would say it is a priority issue and it needs to be worked on 24/7, not six hours a day.

I just came thru there and Bayshore was backed up no further than Fair Isle. If they went 24/7 people like you me would scream bloody murder about not getting any sleep.

It is a mess. But anyway, South Bayshore Dr. has been getting slower and more crowded with cars over the years. There are obviously more cars than a few years ago. People use it as an alternative to go to work downtown, coming from the South. It's bumper-to-bumper these days all the way up to the Fresh Market during rush hour in weekday mornings. A pain in the neck for cyclists too, very dangerous. The parallel Tiger Tail could be of some relief, and does help, but it also gets crowded and it's full of stop signs, lousy pavement, bumps and red lights. US1 is not much better. The fact is there are thousands more people and cars competing for space in Miami every year. And the roads are not getting and wider. Public transportation is a disgrace in Miami. It's not gonna get any better anytime soon. CI

By the way, this project has now taken longer to build than the Empire State Building and has no end in sight.

This time of day is not bad, at 10 am, I kid you not, traffic was backed up past the Fresh Market. At about 3 pm, traffic starts getting backed up like that too since schools are being let out and it's been like that since last Wed. or Thurs.

Annoynymous - No not Tigertail, I live there. I will have to install a round about to slow traffic by my house like Mr. (rhymes with) Barnoff.

The morons on 17 ave block the inetersection on Tigertail as well so you cannot even get thru the traffic light in any direction. Also due to the work there the bike/running path on S. Bayshore is a mess and hazardous to bikers and runners. It's only a matter of time until either a biker or runner is hurt due to all the sand and debis left in the street by this project. Very dangerous. No cops or anyone else in sight to help resolve. Our City is truly a MESS. This would never happen in Center Grove.
