It's like Old Home Week at The Grove Spot

gspot4
It's official The Grove Spot IS the new Grove spot. I see the same people there for breakfast at 9 am and then again at the bar at 9 pm. People just don't want to go home. I call it the "Breakfast Club."

gspot5
Last night the place had lots going on. Robert Clark played his red guitar and the party atmosphere flowed from one end to the other. At right are Armando and Charlene Paz.

gspot6
Gwen Taylor-Grayson had her birthday party at The Grove Spot last night and friends made new friends as they joined in on the fun.

gspot2
The beer, wine and mixed drinks flowed. The party crowd found their new hang out.

gspot3
The Olympics played on the tv's inside and people ate and drank and danced outside.

gspot1
My friend Chris told me that the place had just the right set-up, there was so much space and there was so much going on. In one area people were dining, in another they were dancing, in another they were enjoying Gwen's birthday at another side, Robert was performing and at another friends were hanging out and laughing. There's a lot going on at The Grove Spot (3324 Virginia Street).

It all looks fantastic, except for the cigarette.

I agree, Bo. I love drinking and relaxing with friends outside, but the cigarette smoke drifting to my table really ruins the atmosphere, literally.

That being said, I think the place looks lovely!

A lot of people don't like the Taurus because of all the smoking inside. Smokers here should hang on the terrace.

I was there and it was a great mix. The smokers outside did not bother me because the space is so large yet cozy, inside and out. The Grape is right, when you come to the Grove Spot, you don't want to leave. This is exactly what we need in the Grove. Thanks Grove Spot!

My Buddah! I can't believe that the cigarettes has gotten everyone in tizzy! I thought we as a nation needed to emulate Europe more.

Went by to try breakfast this morning and they were closed. At 10 am on a Sunday! So much for "seeing the same people at breakfast at 9am". We went back to reliable old Greenstreet.

cigarette and cigar smoke is poison.

Please keep Coconut Grove green.

we are not trying to emulate Europe.

The Grove is a unique paradise, lets keep it that way.

We don"t need to emulate everything about Europe. It's no big secret that cigarette and cigar smoke is a killer. And it's very unappetizing to people around the smoker. NYC is very cosmopolitan, and you can't smoke in any establishment, inside or out.

Let the smokers smoke as long as its outside. I'm not a smoker but many of my friends are. I don't mind if they smoke outdoors. Cigarettes are not illegal yet!

No they're no illegal, yet. but if you must smoke in a public place, please watch where your smoke is going. It does bother me to see smokers who hang their arms (with cig in hand) over the back of their chairs so the smoke will not bother their table, but then the smoke goes to the next table...
Smoking in restaurants and bars will be illegal at some point not just because the smoke is bothersome, but because it's deadly.

I really hate the way that some of you people cannot help but tell others how to live.

There is no reliable empirical evidence, nor one single documented case of any person getting lung cancer from second hand smoke. You've just been told this by greedy lobbyists and politicians who know that you are sheep.

I don't smoke, but I think everyone is free to do their own thing. Apparently though, not in coconut grove, where they want to ban cigarettes and enforce curfews.

America - the land of the free - except coconut grove, florida where you have to be a sheep like the rest of us. Spend your money on prada not cigarettes.

Your attitudes are more disgusting than dirty ash trays.

It's not just lung cancer, my friend.
I'm sorry you find the attitude "disgusting" of "the sheep" people who say they don't want to breath other's cigarette smoke. That's a harsh judgement.

Coconut Grove - where facism and telling others how they should live is still all the rage!

And doc - there's a law against smoking inside in florida - so people who continue to complain, do so because it's their favorite activity.

I cannot believe an article about Olav's great new hangout, which is just amazing, has turned into an outlest for the zealots to complain about some people enjoying a smoke outside.

This is what's wrong with CG, and is precisely why its failing.

Except for Gwen, I did not see any of Pommes old timers there (this is from someone who has been to many Sinterklass parties)

Kudos to you Olav..bona fortuna. I wish you wealth and your customers happiness. Unfortunatly...if you have too much fun Sarnoff will put you too in his "black book" and you'll hear the wrath of the 'Step-n-fetch-its' of the Grove where good times go to die since the Sarnoff regime began. In fact, I had a good time too at Olav's place the other night too Grape...please stop posting photographs of adults socializing and drinking and having a good time at these spots as nothing drives Marc and his minions more crazy than that-(Exept of course places like Club Space and The Duece, they're not in the Grove)He's liable to put another 20 people in the restaurant business out of work by closing them down!

It's funny how some are saying they don't want fascist people telling others how to live. So what if people don't want smoke trailing across their tables while they eat and drink? That's their business. Now you're telling them what to do.

I wish The Grove Spot much success. And the Grove is not doomed, thank you.

If you sit at an outside table, you risk the chance that for a brief moment a small amount of smoked mixed with all the air outside has to offer could blow past you.

If that tremendous burden is too much to bear - you should move to Montana or Alaska where you'll never be disturbed. Or take a table inside any restaurant in Florida where smoking is banned.

ANd Ms. Ella, I think you're confused and or retarded (that's right Palin, I said it and will continue to do so, satirically). Saying let others be is not telling people what to do in the same way that saying all smoking should be banned, even outside - is facism.

Wow, anon 3:16... that was rude.

As far as I can tell, no one has stated that smoking should be banned, just watch where the smoke goes. No one has to move. Chill.

Obviously smoking is a big issue everywhere. I really don't think it's necessary to resort to name calling. And telling people to move and calling the Grove dead is not at all productive. We're better than that.
