Your tax dollars at work

The light at 17th Avenue and S. Bayshore Drive was broken the other day it was blinking red, so the FDOT crews came out, spent all day working, blocked traffic for hours, starting a detour through Bay Heights and all was fixed.

But was it? Now only three cars at a time can basically get through since the timing is all off. Traffic is backed up to US1 now on 17th Avenue, due to this timing issue. It was moving faster with a flashing red light before they fixed it.

Bring your patience if you are using 17th Avenue to get into the Grove this weekend.

I drove home that way today, as usual, and noticed that precisely 3 cars made it through. I was the 4th, and must admit I went for the gold, even though I shouldn't have. Shall we say it was kinda red?
Worst yet, the car behind me, the 5th car, took it in in full red. You wait so long now at that light, that it inspired not only me, but the guy behind me, to technically break the law.
That shows you that the guys that re-programmed the light "assumed" that the 17th ave intersection is not as busy as it really is.
I know - I use it every day.
Now what?

The timing of the light on Bird and US1 is also beyond horrible and has been for years now. Will that one ever get fixed?

I couldn't agree more. I live right near that intersection and have to make that left onto US1 every day to get to school. People complain to me about it all the time. When I get back to Miami later this week I will make some calls and figure out what we can do to get it fixed.
