The first of the tour buses will arrive today
The tour buses from Miami Tour Company will start hitting the Grove today. Gus and his crew stopped by again yesterday and they had another little walk around to be sure of what's what. I like how thorough they are.
Felice Dubin, above, gave them a little tour of The Bookstore and I took them around to the various places they will bring the tourists. Places like Paul's Sunglasses kiosk and Out of Africa plan on offering discounts to the tour bus groups.
One thing that stores and restaurants might do is "look open." What I mean by that is have the doors open, now that the cold is gone, and have a few items outside, make your place look welcoming. It wouldn't hurt to have some samples like a Mocha No Jocha or water or cookies or something to entice the tourists in. But just keeping the door open and a smile on your face is really all that is needed.
It's been quite disturbing this week seeing so many closed businesses when they should be open for business in the middle of the day. For instance, two days in a row, The Barnacle was closed shut. We always send tourists there, why are they being turned away in the middle of the day? Shouldn't a state park be open for tourists, especially rignt in the middle of tourist season? Same goes for galleries, restaurants and stores. Why are they closed at midday? Just a whim? Not good for biz.

The Barnacle is probably constructing the sets and doing rehearsals for Shakespeare in the Park this weekend? I liked it at Peacock Park!
I like mornings, it is my time to get out. But almost everything is closed in the grove till noon...
I just assumed The Grove is supposed to be laid back.

Perhaps for once, we will get direct feedback from a group we are trying to attract. We will know soon, by speaking with the tour director, the tourists true feelings about the Grove and what needs improvement.
And all of this at NO COST, instead of the "pseudo business groups" spending money, spinning their wheels, and providing nothing.
Grape, you have done a great job!

From The Barnacle's website: "The Barnacle is open Friday through Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with tours at 10 and 11:30 a.m.; 1 and 2:30 p.m. The park is available on Wednesday and Thursday for group tours by advance reservation." All state museums and historic sites, like The Barnacle, are require to be closed two days a week. It's not up to park management as to when they can be open. I know this because my husband works for the Florida Park Service.
I'm sure they'd be more than happy to accommodate group tours on Wednesdays and Thursdays as long as they had advance notice. I'd call the park to confirm.
