Is Marc attending to give more of our money away on unnecessary things that will not solve the simple problem of traffic during rush hour?

Great plan.

Also, is the company contracting to build all the circles and such, and probably any proposed "calming devices" that same friend of Marc's who's done free work to improve the park in front of his house and the area around his home in general?

I'm asking questions, not speculating that it is so. But since this is public record, I figured someone would know.

Since you are asking the question, I will answer...you are an idiot. With the exception of the trees that the city relocated from the Orange Bowl site, Grove residents maintain the park across from Sarnoff's house. We raise money from happy hours, garage sales and silent auctions, then do the work ourselves. Instead of being an internet conspiracy theory jerk, why not come out and do your part in keeping the Grove beautiful.

Peacocks make great traffic calming devices.

*** No peacocks were harmed in the stating of this comment.

Calvin, that is weird, because I distinctly remember fences being put up and a construction company having their name on those fences, claiming to be doing the work.

The prior comment wasn't who maintains the park, but who "built/renovated" it.

Let me tell you what commissioner Sarnoff's self serving idea is.
He want you and me, the tax payers to pay for yet another pet project to benefit him and a couple of his cronies on Virgina Ave. Everything this man does is self serving.
Ya know mark, "charity alway seems to begin at your home". He's going to be the professional huckster that he is when explaining to everyone the necessity for the city to close off the end of his street to deter traffic in front of his house. People should be outraged! No more commissioner, the the matress is empty, the city is broke for goodness sake! I can think of 1000 better way to spend our money.

Didn't Preppy Papa Sarnoff get rid of all the Peacocks?

Calvin, You have always seemed to me to be a informed guy but lately you really have become bitter and angry. Calling people idiots doesn't make you smarter. Just a thought.

Traffic calming devices in South Grove... Hmmm I wonder if those words were used to sell that obnoxious traffic light at Edgewater. I'd hardly call it calming - more like aggravating.

I have to say I've had it with the ugly Sarnoff comments. I'm not a minion, or an old crusty Groveite, I just find it all very petty. Both churlish and childish.

I understand people take issue with him or his policies or motives, but come on folks, curb your lack of enthusiasm. Tourists read this blog.

"ugly Sarnoff comments? He deserves quite harsher words, we're being nice after what he's been doing to the Grove, the well-being of Business here and our oun personal freedom. Incompetent Preppy Papa Sarnoff (IPPS) is being nice.

I personally don't think Virginia St needs any more traffic calming. The irony is the traffic circle actually keeps traffic moving right in front of a park where a full stop would be nice to keep pedestrians safer.

Commissioner Sarnoff is doing a great job. I may not agree with all of his policies, but we elected him. He represents the city of Miami quite well. He is educated, well spoken and honest. He is a reasonable man in an uncertain world.

Traffic calming device, let me see, a live uniformed officer with a radar gun, a manikin with a police uniform and short stick pointed East, no two beautiful shapely females with bikinis and playgirl fireman type in beach chairs-----a sign with free happy hour drinks-----scattered $5.00 bills-----fake nails/spikes-----fake peacocks with 42 babies bringing up the rear-----fake buffalo chips, paint fake manhole with no cover, etc.

CLL, don't you think that Commissioner Sarnoff is 'self-serving'? Wouldn't Gary Hecht make a better Commissioner?

TO CLL and Lexie - he lies to people's faces. He will tell you one thing, while doing another. If you own a business, he will tell you to run it the way he wants, or he will put you out of business.

He's a smug, arrogant, vengeful, dishonest bureaucrat, and those are the nice things I can think of saying.

The freedom of speech exists primarily to allow people to express their greivences with public officials. if you don't like it, go back to holding your head in the sand as you must have been doing for the last few years if you don't realize what this man is all about.

CLL you sound like you just pulled that comment right out of a press release. Your real initials wouldn't by any chance be DK?

BTW Machiavelli was educated, well spoken and honest. And I use honest loosely.

I've heard rumor that my tax dollars are already going to some newfangled traffic calming devices called "Po-Lice Off-icers".

Evidently they are not working.
Why don't we fix them?

Lexie -

We understand how a young person such as yourself, who was personally helped by Mr. Sarnoff and worked closely with him might feel some loyalty to him. For that I do not blame you. However, I ask that you take the time to skim through the last year of posts on the grapevine about your hero, and see what specific, concrete problems many of us have with him. Then you may understand.

A lot of us have had dealings with him that are very different from your own. He has been derisive, and intentionally so.

Do you think this is a popularity contest and we're picking on him? This is the real world. And there a big stakes here. He's costing people money, jobs, livelihoods, and even something as trivial as good times. I've seen some of his tactics, and they demonstate a lack of respect for others and an inability to compromise. That's not the worst of it either Lexie. Keep your eyes open, and listen openly to perspectives other than the one you were fed while working for him.

Lexie, to add to what that guy said, above, if you worked with Marc in his first year as Commissioner you saw a different Marc than we do now. Keep in mind that Marc was elected and then had to run again a year later. During the first year he was on his best behavior, for the most part. It wasn't until he won the second election and was assured another 4 years that the worst of the arrogant, elitest, bullying behavior people complain about in this blog became apparent to his constituents.

I attended the meeting last night and it was very well organized and the proposed devices are 22 foot wide, 3 inch high speed humps, not speed bumps that are smaller and noisy. The meeting was well attended by a large number of residents that were too busy complaining to listen with an open mind. Regarding your "tax dollars" it was explained that the city has a fund for traffic devices. Mark's office is trying to get some of those funds allocated to the South Grove. Unfortunately, with all of the negativity it will probably get allocated to another part of the City. Taxes are not being raised or assessed to fund this project. The money is already put in this pot.

Just because there is money in the pot doesn't mean we should spend it... particularly on speed bumps along main roads.

Speed bumps are the most self-defeating invention in the history of humanity. We've spent a century developing technology to have cars run smoothly, and roads that are well paved, then just throw down a gauntlet in the middle of them...

Also, have you seen the condition of tigertail and 27th? if all those potholes don't slow people down, why would a speed bump?

Come on folks, dont be such party poopers lets join Mr. Sarnoff in defacing the Grove with traffic circles just like Tomas Regalado did to his neighborhood.Think of it as an eyesore that you have to water and maintain for ever and ever and ever and ever.Raising your taxes will pay for future maintenance, they really will.
