More beat cops added to the streets

You may have noticed more police around the Grove. The BID has beefed up security. City of Miami Police are coordinating with our local private security company and all are working to keep the Grove safe and secure.

Thursdays through Sundays, the hours are extended and more security is out there. The police are not sitting in cars, they are out walking the beat, biking and my all time favorite, on horseback. You probably have seen them more often, especially on horseback.

What does it say about a community that is required to raise additional taxes to clean up it’s streets and hire more police for security? It says that we are not getting our money's worth from the city and would much prefer to be on our own, if that was at all possible.

I know more negative comments are coming, but I am very happy to see the additional police presence. We live on Day and despite my objections, my wife loves walking to center grove to hit 24hr fitness or shop. The additional patrols do somewhat ease my concerns.

Also, took a cue from Olaf. At the end of his night he walks around a block or two before heading home. On those late work nights and weekends in the Grove, I take an extra loop around the block before heading in the house. It's not about stopping crime, but just having people visible different hours of the night.

Here we go, the list of anonymous complainers.
*RANT*
First and foremost, the BID should have been doing this since the beginning instead of renting the billboard. I applaud them for their efforts.
Secondly, people are getting shot and killed in Overtown. The Grove has the most Cops per square mile then anywhere else in the City. And it gets close to anywhere in the County.
Third, the aformentioned City is near bankrupt and had to cut other great services that keep our streets clean: NET

What does it say about our City? It's sinking and the new Mayor is trying to bail the City out.
Now you can help or you can sit there and complain anonymously.
At least the Tom DOES something.

I love you, 4:57, the anonymous rant against the anonymous complainers! Too funny!

It's great that there is more police presence for the BID, but let's not forget the residential neighborhood just north of the SD-2 where the rapes have occurred. I work on Mary (ironically in an office building that's technically part of the BID) and used to feel safe walking to my car late at night, but now it makes me a bit uncomfortable.

It's especially effective when we have more bike and mounted police on the streets. They're visible and more likely to notice unusual things happening on the sidewalks and in the periphery of the street.

A positive step. Now, let's focus on improved lighting.

Good stuff. Hope it lasts. The more "Beat Cops" on foot, bike AND horse, the better for our Village. Too many Policemen on cars. Here's a reply I received on the subject by our new Top Cop:

"Thank you for your comments and input it’s always helpful. I agree we could always use more police officers. I do feel fortunate that I was able to secure the additional officer that will be specifically patrolling the north grove on his bicycle. As I’m sure you aware we have had a spike in the north grove and this additional officer will go a long way in curbing the recent trend. The times the officer will patrol will be dictated by the times the crimes are occurring. As for the village I will be implementing more park and walks and encouraging the very interaction that you describe in your email.

Thanks Again,

I see more cops on the street in Miami. I lived in New York, L.A and despite seeing more cops on the street you still have to take your own security measures. Criminals prey on opportunity.

i'm happy to see more cops, though i think they should move the empty cop car on virginia daily to give the illusion a little more realism, also i wish the cops wouldn't meet in the middle of virginia at the beginning of their shift (im guessing) and show off the undercover vehicles and outfits that the undercover cops are wearing, i mean it sorta defeats the whole undercover thing in my opinion if ya start the night all hanging out together in a group of ten or more blocking the street so there's no way you go unnoticed.

i know there's no satisfying me but this is what goes through my mind and i like to share :p
