Regalado sworn in today as new mayor

mayor1
I felt a sense of hope and peace sweep over me as I witnessed Tomás Regalado being sworn in as Mayor today. The part in his speech about accountability and ethics really got to me.

Over 1000 people showed up to welcome the new Mayor into office, most were outside in the heat and under tents, where drinks and paella was being dished out.

Inside, the Mayor's family attended along with Florida Governor Charlie Crist and a slew of other Florida politicians from Congressmen to local government officials.

Let'see, "hope and Peace", warm fuzzies about "accountability and ethics"?
Just thought you might want to know your new Mayor has just notified us through Marc Sarnoff that he will NOT allow the Council use the chambers or Chanell 77 for our previously scheduled meeting tomorrow night in spite of the fact that he has no procedures or regulations regarding the scheduling of the use of the chambers and tha we filed a formal application this morning to use it for tomorrow night.
Guess you have your info wrong from your friend the Mayor. I'd suggest everyone stop bitching on this blog and get on the line to the new Mayor and Chairman of the Commission and do something productive by letting them know how you feel about being shut out of city hall.

Pat, with all due respect, Regalado knows nothing about any of this. None of the correspondemce has come from him. None.

eamil your fax number and I'll send you the letter. To follow your assumptions, this letter was written by Hernandez and he was lying about the Mayor knowing about it. Seems hard to believe a guy thats fighting for his job would risk it all for the Village Council by lying about his boss.
And like Marc or not, I find it hard to believe he would take the time to call today from the swearing in ceremony and make up a whole story about talking to the Mayor when if it's a lie, he would risk his Chairman's position.
Either the Mayor is surrounded by people lying about him or he is misleading you. You're his buddy, call him up and get us back in city hall tommorrow night, that gives everyone a chance to be heard and him a chance to clear all this up.

Oh God. I like Pat very much (although I don't know him personally) but I find it a little disconcerting that he is accusing his constituency-- which is not his constituency yet-- of "bitching."

And yes. I have made a few calls today to register my thoughts.

Pat, congrats again on your new chair position...You deserve it.
You're right about one thing Pat, someones lying and it's not our newly elected Mayor. This has all the markings of Sarnoff. He's absolutely consumed with preventing this 5AM issue to be discussed until he feels that the coast is clear. In other words until he thinks he's persuaded enough VC members to see things his way. I've been told by more than a couple of yet to be sworn in VC members that Marc is already starting to try and manipulate them. Lucky for the Grove we elected some real independent thinkers that aren't so easily duped. First comes the schmoozing and if that fails, intimidation.
I would bet my life when the dust settles on this outrageous attempt to try and silence free speach you'll find that Marc was the one to pull all the strings.
Good luck Pat... you've got your work cut out for you.

Congratulation to the new Mayor. I hope Mayor Regalado on top of his agenda stops code enforcement and building department from raping homeowners and business owners, an attempt to raise revenues only to save their own jobs by writing as much violations as they can think of.

He knows about it now, and it would be easy enough for him to let his opinion be known with a one paragraph memo.

Time to take the helm Tommy.

Congrats Pat..good luck to you. You seem like a person who realizes that Grovites appreciate people in government who give them honesty and allow free thinking without passing judgement. In many of these blogs people seem to have have problems with this or that in the Grove..like the 5 am bar closings- that has been a hot topic and should be. But many people miss the boat on the decision to close all establishments (with the acception of Flannigans and everywhere else in District de Sarnoff) at 3am . Some bloggers complain that people shouldn't be drinking at 5am and telling the rest of us how to live our lives etc, but it really is about our elected officials lying to us and then insulting our intelligence after they have lied to us, not to mention passing judgement on how we live our lives. Grovites hate those two things and have seen and heard too much of that during this Sarnoff regime. Be true to your constituents by being honest and by listening to their legitmate concerns. Realize people hate liars and those who insult our intelligence after they change the rules in the middle of the game ala Marc Sarnoff
