Keeping Burn Notice in Florida

Burn-Notice
Burn Notice fan and Grove resident, State Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera chats with Burn Notice star Jeffrey Donovan in Tallahassee last week. Carlos is a true Burn Notice fan, and he would like to keep the show filming right here in the Grove. I can remember more than once when he discussed an episode or two with me personally.

Donovan was at the state capitol last week to lobby for more state money and incentives to keep movies and tv filming in Florida.

According to State Film Commissioner Lucia Fishburne, Burn Notice has paid more than $28.4 million in Florida salaries and is responsible for booking over 7,000 hotel room nights as well as millions more spent on production costs, including permits, food, construction, wardrobe, rentals and more.

Burn Notice will receive $5.2 million in incentives out of the state's yearly $10.8 million budget. Guess they will be here for awhile, despite one or two short sighted politicians.

The guy doesn't even wear a jacket to lobby the legislature? That's a little disrespectful, in my very humble opinion. I guess he's a tv star so he can get away with it.

When you bring $28 million to the city of Miami, then we'll let you get away with it too? K?

Glad to see Jeffrey supporting the industry in the state, even in the off season and in Tallahassee. And thanks to the Grapevine for keeping up the Burn Notice coverage even when they're not in town. BN fans appreciate it.

Florida is lucky to have someone with sincere interest the location and is willing to stand up for the state. Yeah, Jeffrey! It means good things for everyone.

Grape - what allows programs such Burn Notice and other robust and energetic movements to happen in the Grove, in spite of one or two short sighted politicians, is the forum you provide for thought provoking public discussion.

thank you WV

Rep. Lopez-Cantera's efforts are much appreciated in helping to keep Burn Notice here in Coconut Grove. They used to film some scenes in front of my house. They pour a huge amount of money into our local economy and work wonders for our national image. Anything that can be done to encourage more TV shows and movies to film here has my full support.

Burn Notice is a huge plus for Coconut Grove and for Florida.

But for this, the state is allocating almost half of it's Film Commission budget?

That seems like a lot.

To tony - your first sentence answered your question in your 2nd sentence. And your 3rd sentence - perhaps you are right - the state should have a much larger film commission budget (and incentives )to compete with N and S Carolina, louisiana, etc where many tv shows and movies are being shot instead of Fla - I hope that is of course what you really meant to suggest Tony.

Burn Notice spent over $55 mil in Florida in the past three years. They only received $8.5 mil in support from the State so obviously they are a great investment. Plus, the show is a huge hit with constant replays. Their website appears to show Burn Notice being shown in over 100 countries.

We are lucky to have Burn Notice at the Coconut Grove Expo Center.

Film and commercial work add a very clean well paying industry to Miami.

Tourism, Miami's largest industry could use the exposure successful films and TV shows provide.

Hey - how about a gambling casino instead of burn notice using the convention center now or a park being built there later. Certainly a btter revenue generator. (just a joke ! but be afraid - very afraid - you never know know ...)
