No "welcome basket" of muffins for them
There have been complaints about the place on Main Highway that was just built between Greenstreet and the Playhouse, and that has never been opened yet. There were complaints when it literally was a hole in the ground and a pile of dirt.
You have a bunch of sick neighbors out there. Just thought you should know.
Let's just put the sign up "Coconut Grove is Closed For Good," and be done with it. Or maybe "Century Village South," would be more fitting.

What are the complaints about The Ivy? I don't want to open a can of worms, but what's the beef?
No beef at all, its just the grove activists's way of welcomimg restaurant or heaven forbid bars.
I'm going to try and find out from the police and get back to you on this one Grape
I say crank it up! Higher decibels, music in the Streets, the louder, the better. 5am closings with proper police supervision, huh, Mr. Sarnoff?. Police to enforce the new law: louder music, no public drunks, crime or violence, though. POLICE. Elect a new mayor, a new commissioner for this forsaken district and BLAST these malcontent, old fashined whiners outta town. They need to move to Gables or Naples up West! Why did they move to the Traditional Center Grove in the first place? To meditate after 7pm? Brilliant.
Perhaps these neighbors are trying to ram their property value low enough so they can have a no conscience decision when they walk on their mortgages.
These people will not be happy until all quality of life is gone. Grape you have to start naming names. We have a right to know who these clowns are.
Please let's clarify who is trying to prevent Ivy from throwing a Halloween party and why? I do not like it when a new neighbor is being mistreated, the Grove should welcome the new Brits on the block.
I think we all need to calm down a little bit, I investigated this issue and yes there are concerns that if the Ivy is going to be as loud as Christobelle's was (from the roof till late in the morning) that some neighbors have a concern; it is their right to ask questions. It is all about the quality of life mixed together. I think we should have a dialogue instead of a public lynching. Seeying noise just by the announcement of a party is wrong; but being cautious to your surroundings is called good neighbors, for all parties.
What are the complaints? How can you complain about places that havent even opened yet?
Is The Ivy a restaurant or a club, or both? What is the crowd they're targeting? Sorry, but I'm not in the loop on this one.
To Anon 1:40 and any other complainers - WAIT TILL YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. Otherwise you just look and sound like an A-hole.
I don't wanna hear a metaphor about prevention and cure after this, because a high end restaurant/bar is not a disease. It's a lifeline at this point. This could generate a lot of interest in people "coming to check out the new place" or saying "Oh, I went to the Ivey when I was in London"...
To "that guy"; I do not think that anon 1:40 was complaining, I read it as an explanation and a possible cause for what the complaints were all about. I agree with anon 1:40; there is nothing wrong by being cautious for the facts, but as anon states "seeing noise" (just the announcement of a party alone), instead of "hearing noise" (actual and factual) are dangerous issues that are running wild and has cost the Grove dearly. I for one would like to re-write the noise complaint order, to avoid unreasonable complaints or to have a better direct grip on what is abuse.
Christabelle's was never loud.
I love it when we can't agree as to whether the place never once had a crowd or was a bustling public nuisance. WTF?
I think anyone attempting a pre-emptive noise complaint should be fined... or executed.
Grape, can we do the slogan thing again? I got a good one:
"Welcome to Coconut Grove: shhhhhhh!"
Without development and activity, a cancer will spread and the center grove will become desolate, with shops and restaurants closed. This will lead to a decline in safety, cleanliness and prosperity. Do whatever it takes to generate business and increase pedestrian traffic. Otherwise, the center grove will look exactly like the west grove. Just look there to see what will happen.
CLL
reminds me of people who bought house in rural properties next to farms, ranches. THEN they complain about the moise and smell! You wanted to live in a mini city people, what did you expect - the silence of a desert ?
SO MUCH love.
Kind of funny. Most of the people who Blog on to this website could not afford to live close enough to the noise. And forget about a water view. With Binoculars maybe and that is a long shot. We in the center grove call these people the West of dixie crowd.
Breaking News, Ivy decides to break it's lease and has started looking at Coral Gables and Brickell locations due to complaints. Geriatric Yoga takes over lease for Christabelle's space.
Grove complainers are happy again.
But what is the complaint about? How can anyone comment inteligently without having at least some facts?
Most disturbing is that the politicians and bureaucrats actually listen to these always complaining contrarians who moved into the city and somehow expect rural silence. It could be raining $100 bills and they complain. The positive thinkers need to stand up and be counted. Be less complacent and vocal enough to drown out the cancerous contrarians.
Some people here need to take a chill pill and grow some empathy. Having restaurants and clubs in the grove is not only great but also part of it's enduring charm. That said, when you are unable to sleep in your own home because the DJ in a particular "Restaurant" or club has no sense of consideration then it is not acceptable. Those of you who are calling for "The naming of the whiners" and putting people down with zero regard for fact or motivation sound like little kids arguing on a play ground. I agree that complaining about a place before it even opens is a bit premature but believe me when I say that once you have had to fight several neighbors keeping you and your family up at night you become a bit trigger happy. I, for one, will not complain about anyone until it becomes grating but if someone else wishes to voice their opinion and their vote then that is their prerogative.
Welcome to the Grove IVY!!! Your reputation preceeds you. I've heard nothing but great things about the new owners of the property. I actually met them a couple weeks ago. They were not only charming and engaging but they were acutely aware of the need for a delicate "balance" between the business district and the residential community. I say we all should open up our arms and wecome this wonderful new asset to the Grove.
