Meeting about Glass House's future is today

glasshouse
The Friends of Peacock Park are meeting at the Glass House this afternoon, October 4, from 4 to 5 pm. The discussion is about the future of the Glass House. A restaurant is planned for the property and many would like to see it as a community center instead.

At a recent Merchants Group forum, both Mayoral Candidates, Tomás Regalado and Joe Sanchez, felt that the Glass House should not be handed over to a private business. They would like it to remain in the public's hands.

Joe Sanchez suggested a community center like one in his district that offers art classes, computer classes, parties, and so forth. They did say maybe a small snack bar as part of the plans would be acceptable, but not a full out privately owned restaurant. Regalado agreed with this.

Good ideas. There's a Library right there too and the Women's Historic club. Perhaps this Glass House could also serve as a Cocoanut Grove Museum of sorts.
It's the Grove's downtown, as someone mentionned here.

And BTW, the best thing Friends of Peacock Park can do is relocate the Mangroves on the South-East Corner, clear the Water from the Sailors club down. it would be HUGE for the grove's Economy, not to mention our kids. A white, sandy beach there, again. But that's another story. see ya later on. CI

We seem to have a surplus of restaurants and a sub-plus (???) public spaces. What good will it do to have another restaurant there? The park is a great place to bike or walk by, why fill it up with the inevitable parking and congestion that follows?

Perhaps a better idea would be to offer some kind of tax-abatement or employment incentive for restaurants to expand towards 37th Avenue through the Black Grove?

Couldn't agree more, anon@12.59. Those few modern mangroves have there at Amy's park have got to go. Blasphemy! I know.. Notice the area between the Boardwalk and the park: full of dirt, debris and junk. Homeless people's paradise. Then take a moment, and look at the extreme corner there, southeast. CI

The City is broke. Firemen getting $300,000 per year salaries? 100% pensions?

Peacock Park could use more visitors.

Maybe a beautiful coffee shop would attract visitors and enhance the park? Plus the rent might help the broke City.
