Masquerade party benefitting Peacock Tour

The Mutiny Hotel is holding a fundraiser to support the adoption of one of the peacocks for this spring's Coconut Grove Peacock Tour. The YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade is the charity they are partnering with.

On Thursday, October 29, the Mutiny is holding the "Peacock Masquerade," which will feature a cocktail reception, art exhibit and masquerade from 6 to 9 pm.

Wear your best peacock plumage for the chance to win prizes. Atchana's East/West Kitchen will be catering the poolside event.

Entry fee is $20.00.

Neo-Pop Artist Ed King was chosen by the Mutiny to design their 6 foot peacock sculpture.

For reservations for the masquerade party, please call 305-441-2100, ext 2008.

To sponsor a peacock or to design one or just to get more info on the whole project, please contact Heather Bettner at 305-775-0113 or heather@princemediadevelopment.com.

Since it is the Coconut Grove Peacock Tour, it would have been nice if a Grove charity benefited from the event.

let me get this straight, the hotel is holding a benefit for itself at $20 a head to raise money to buy a fiberglass peacock from the promoters of the Peacock Tour which cost $3700 to $4400, from which the artist will only be paid $500 after surrendering all the rights to the artwork to the promoter.

The average cost of an unpainted fiberglass peacock is around $500- $700.

The painted peacock is then auctioned, probably at another event in which people will have to pay to get in, and then, only if the peacock is purchased, will the charity the hotel is partnering with see any "benefit" whatsoever.

The promoter keeps an average of $2500 for each peacock sold. The only guaranteed beneficiary is the promoter. Kind of like the billboard on 27 ave.

Some people for some reason have to be negative and spread false information and rumor so they can try to destroy something wonderful.

I think anonymous is one of those persons. Secondly I'd like to know what anonymous has ever done to better the community of Coconut Grove...and I do hope it is something as wonderful as this public art event.

The Mutiny's charity is the YWCA a very worth charity and I hope they will auction off their Peacock for a great amount of money. All charities have taken a terrible hit this year and I hope that this auction will be a windfall for them.

As for your statement about the cost of producing the Peacocks that is false. The Peacock Tour is modeled after many other successful public art events where fees or licensing are concerned. I am not going to go into detail but anonymous has no clue as to what the costs are or how to do this, otherwise these erroneous statements would not be made.

However there are many additional costs that are incurred other than the honorarium fee to the artist and the actual production. Such as the website, the printed maps, the permits, transportation, plaques, advertising, employees.

Anyway, this will be a great public art event that will unify and beautify the Grove for six months, bring in much need visitors and raise awareness of our artists and their talents. And in the end raise money for charity.

If anyne has any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me personally. My number and e-mail is here on the Grapevine.

And please do not refer to me as the promoter. My family came to the Grove in 1931 and I have lived here all of my life. Doing the Peacock Tour is my vision and concept and I am doing this to help the Grove survive through some very hard times. I am not as you would say "the promoter" but the Peacock Tours Mother.

I hope you come to The Mutiny Party and suport them!
