We missed out on Park(ing) Day
Yesterday was Park(ing) day. We missed out. Maybe next year.
It's a movement where parking spots on the street are taken over and used for various things -- like mini parks.
People set up the parks, outdoor living rooms, tents, etc. It's a way to show how we can get along without cars.
The meters are still paid, so the Parking Authority would still get money, but it's an interesting concept to just take over the spots for the day and hang out.
You can see photos and get more info on the whole concept here.

Do hope everyone clicks though and looks at the photos. They must all have had a wonderful time. Possible, you grape, missed the boat on this one. Had you announced it prior to the event I know we would have participated it is so Grovey.
Lake Worth participated and announced it on their local blog 3 weeks prior to the event as well on the city site. Then again you had such a full agenda, can't be on top of everything. What would we do without you. your friend.
With all the constant complaining about parking, would this really fly in the Grove? I can't say I think it would...

I have seen peopole do this before in places like SF. a few years ago I proposed that we do this on the street for the "Strut". Since the "Strut" is always looking for money and because we have to rent the spots for the day anyway I thought we could "rent Park (ing) spaces" decorated like lawns with charis etc. to people who would be willing to pony up some donation $$$. kind of like when Antoinette and others came up with selling the Grand Marshal's position on ebay. We had a lot of fun with that. Don (the GM) was a Great guy to deal with and we scored $5k which really helped.
Could someone comment on this; couldn't someone do this at any time they wanted to, i.e., pay the meter and set up a tent or chairs. Do you have to park a car in a parking space, is it the law?
