I would love to attend. Do you have an email contact or web for Friends of Peacock Park.
Thank you
Me, too. Thanks David, Thorn and Terry for putting this together!
Yes, great idea, I'll be there too. I just called their # and left a message, can't find a Website for "The Friends of Peacock Park.
I ran through there this morning to visit our Amy Billig, and started meditating too.. I just can't help but wonder what that corner of the park, South East corner would look like with a full view of the Bay, from the Sailors Club, through the Mirador or Boardwalk there. I know, I know, the Mangroves are sacred, (even a few which werent there a couple decades ago anyway), protected and beneficial, but please, next time you pass by, just imagine a little white sand beach there with the palm trees already in place (it's already almost bare with no Mangroves at the very south-east) and a Full Water view, with the Picturesque boats, Awesome Sunrises, in a scene that you could see coming all the way up from McFarlaine and Center Grove. Just picture that for a minute. What it wouldn't do for the Grove's tourism.. Would it disrupt the entire ecosystem to simply Relocate a few Mangroves a couple blocks away? I highly doubt it.. Hopefully I'll bring that up during that Sunday meeting. Carlos Iglesia
Dear Tony, Heather, Silk, Marc, Ron, Pogonip, Harry, Meredith, Ron, Anonoymous, and anyone else who is interested in the future of the Grove's central park.
We hope you can join us for a lively discussion on Sunday afternoon, rain or shine.
-Glenn Terry,
for The Friends of Peacock Park
(Sorry, we do not have a website. I can be reached at bettermiami@yahoo.com)
Hey, Glenn, if Anonymous comes will he/she be allowed to participate with a paper bag over his/her head?
What is Friends of Peacock, never heard of them, when do they meet, where do they meet, any website or email list to get on? I'll bring the paper bags if you bloggers will wear them.
Michelle, who's anonymous here thus far? Carlos
Carlos, I was referring to Glenn's post where he named a bunch of people, including "Anonymous," and encouraged them to come to the meeting.
No worries Michelle. So what do Glenn, Tony, Heather, Silk, Marc, Ron, Pogonip, Harry, Meredith, Ron and all think about relocating a FEW Mangroves on that South East corner of thepark, so everyone could enjoy an AWESOME view of the Bay? I know the imminent issue here is the future of the Glass House.. but if we clear up corner a bit, light it up, as most Cities surely would, our Grove Central Park will be in great shape. How about an Observatory from the cleared Boardwalk or Amy Billig's Garden, with data of the Bay's ecosystems available at the GlassHouse Historic Grove Museum/ Community Center? See you all on Sunday. Carlos
I would be all for relocating mangroves if I had not been part of the prior exploration of that idea and learned that the likelihood of getting environmental approvals is very low or would come with very high cost. Also, the mangroves help stabilize the shoreline. It's all silted in there; not really a good place to swim. I'm all for trimming and/or windowing the mangroves and getting Spoil Island E open and accessible to the public through a launch service as soon as possible. That's the island across from the sailing club.
Michelle, I recently spoke with Glenn, he 's got a great historical perpective on these Mangrove "ecological" matters, and Peacock Park facts. Tired now, but so you know, I'm a National Geographic, Sierra Club kid. We recently planted Mangrove's habitats in Virginia Key with our bare hands. And we know exactly what you talk about here, known it for years now.
The point remains: The South East Corner of Peacock park will be cleared of Mangroves. If I can help it. Makes all the sense in the entire freaking planet. Carlos.
I will make it one of my personal endeavor to clear the Mangroves from the Sailors Club down to Amy Billig's park. It's.. (:: deep breath::) logical. Carlos.
"the likelihood of getting environmental approvals is very low or would come with very high cost"
Can anyone refer me to the appropriate people to talk about this non-sense? The City, environment people? Any data of previous public or not-so-public meetings? Names, e-mails, telephone #'s?
Thanks, I'll be more than happy to spend time on this until the Waterfront, from The Sailors Club to Amy's park is a delightfull Bayshore Water View with the boats, the Sunrises, for all to enjoy. It's so reasonable, too obvious. Tired of writing here, time for action. Saunday afternoon, GlassHouse anyone? CI
