I know someone who went up, and his neighbor down. This has to do with millage in the county. If it went up significantly remember you can appeal. And because this property appraiser is elected, he can be replaced (and should be more wary of raising peoples values significantly)

Taxes are up. In economic downturns of this magnitude, there are plenty of convincing and scientific arguments for slashing taxes. Especially when the government has been this inefficient.

property went up because of SOS but only the .01% so it was negligible. Taxes went up because the millage rates went up.

Our property value went down and taxes went down. I guess we're one of the lucky ones.

Kendall home bought in FEB '03 (didn't overpay that much like the poor people did in 2005) - taxes went UP a few hundred dollars. I think that the bulk (but not all) of the persons seeing a reduction are those that got ripped off buying during the peak - their values have come way down. As for those of us that bought low/semi-low before it got crazy, our home valuations are still going UP as our properties (according to the appraiser) are still worth more than what we paid for them.

Lets get one thing straight, millage rates and taxes are set by the commission and Tallahasse which extorts taxes from Dade County to pay for public services in the rest of the states returning to us only partially what is collected here. The property Appraisal is responsible for assessing value and that is done based on previous year's sales, not forclosures. Broward county took those into consideration, we did not. If you want to blame someone blame your commissioners, not the Property Appraisal who is mandated by Tallahassee to assess value of properties. People are happy their taxes went down, they won't be so happy they have negative equity and will not be able to recoup what they invested in their properties. People, the government isn't responsible for your lack of financial education. However, taxes will keep going down next year as well as foreclosures, don't believe the hype of realtors trying to sell you properties at depreciated values which will continue to go down.

There is an option...

www.ptrmax.com

This firm makes it quick and easy to appeal your property taxes.

It only costs $99.00 to get started. There is also a contingency fee for a successful reduction...
