Committee reviews the Great Grove Bedrace
The great part is that everyone seems to want to be a part of it now, so next year's event will be bigger and better and there will be more sponsorship and more events. It may possibly stretch through the whole weekend.
For now, the Bed Race has brought the Grove back to the fun-loving, funky place that we were. It was a major success in everyone's eyes (not just the committee's). Businesses did phenomenally well over the weekend and everyone had a ball.
While many questioned whether to continue the Pajama Pub Crawl, that actually was very well organized and it sold out, it may have brought in more money to the Alonzo Mourning Charities than the Bed Race itself.
We're proud to say that there was a questionnaire when people signed in and one question was, "Where did you hear about the Pub Crawl?" 40% responded that they read it here on the Grapevine, another 40% read it on Facebook and the remaining 20% saw it in various other media or heard it from someone.
Many of the committee members will meet on Wednesdays, like we did for the Bed Race and Fourth of July, before that, but this will be for the upcoming Mad Hatter Festival in November. But as new ideas and plans come out pertaining to the Bed Race, we'll post that here.
By the way, there were about 10,000 people there, according to many estimates, the Herald reported 1000, they were wrong.

So maybe the Herald got their attendance estimate from Sid Sussman?
As you evaluate this year's event, I would suggest providing the race team captains an opportunity to give their feedback. Their perspectives will be quite different from those of organizers and spectators, and I am sure they have some great suggestions for next year.
I've actually been informed that well over 50% of the money for the charity was brought in by the pajama pub crawl. What else (besides the just over two thousand for bed registrations, actually raised money?)
Also, that was a great part of the weekend, but I see no reason to limit it to 250 people in the future.
Everyone acts like this is something new, remember the FLAMINGO'S? They were around for a while until they started disappearing.
Thanks GRAPE!!!! Great job as usual. Keep up all the great grove work you do!
I'm glad that your bed race was succesful for your committee. I would be interested in seeing a spreadsheet of costs vs profits since the event was a charity event.
I would like to attend one of your Bed Race production meetings and offer some possitive input for the benefit of the Grove which has been my HOME for 56 years.
Let me know.
