Cabana One to close Friday

Cabana One, atop the Mayfair Hotel and Spa will close as a club on Friday. The hotel will take over the space and run it as a hotel pool.

Angelo and Maxie's, the steakhouse on the Ground floor has also been taken over by the hotel and is being run by the hotel.

Neighbors who complained about the constant noise from Cabana One and Anokha across the street have now gotten the peace they craved.

The pool is not open to the public, only hotel guests. Which is a bit tacky because the bar is actaully open to the public. So as long as you go and buy drinks, you are more than welcome to watch people flip flop at the pool, but you can't go in yourself, but you can spend money at at the bar.

Anyone know if they will still be having the beer tasting and chicken wings happy hour tonight?

does this mean the pool is no longer open to the public? is this closure permanent or just for the rest of the summer slow season?

This is a true loss to the grove. Cabana One had so much potential and was a great and unique happy hour spot. You could chill, have a poolside drink and enjoy the view and sunset.

The nights there were fun in the beginning too. The problem was they didn't know what they wanted to be. It went from fun and inviting to south beachy and exclusive and was eventually taken over by nothing but Ed Hardy sporting clowns in sunglasses at night. By the time they realized that a change was needed it was too late.

My wife and I are grovites, we have been living in the Grove for years and love it. We do whatever we can to support Grove business, and are sad when good ones close down. However, I cannot say we are sad about these 2 closures-- Cabana One seemed confused, they frequently charged entrance fees for events akin to the SoBe ways we grovites dislike -- Maxies food, prices & service was terrible, also akin to a SoBe biz. They put themselves out of biz.

That's sucks! I'm going on Saturday for a huge party that's taking place there during the day with a DJ and everything.

It hhould have always been a hotel pool and never a club - the City screwed up when it issued that license. It is a beautiful place and should be open to the public even if for a nominal fee.

It hurts all grove businesses when one goes under. If this brought a group of people out in the grove, there's a good chance they would have stopped at another bar or restaurant or shop or noticed something else to bring them back.

Are they going to be open for happy hour today? or does closing Friday mean closed for good. I was just starting to like those new specials for happy hour.

Grape I disagree:
It is not the least bit tacky for hotels to keep their pools exclusive to guests while making their food and beverage outlets available to the public in general. It's pretty much the policy of any hotel.

For instance, you would not get very far if you walked into Delano with a towel in you hand in an attempt to use the pool. On the other hand walk in at dusk on late night for drinks, and you are simply part of the club crowd most hotels welcome after sundown. And if you check the pool at that time, you are not likely to see anyone in it, because it would pretty much be considered, well...tacky.

By the way, the place is still open... just not as Cab One.

I saw a huge difference tonight without block party. Very slow. The block party really helped our business each week it was on. I am so happy to hear they are bringing it back and for so long. It will be fantastic!!!!!!

Cabana One was the upscale night life alternative to the more casual bars & restaurants that proliferate in Coconut Grove. This is sad news to say the least.
