Police on bikes hitting the streets
Miami Police Chief John Timoney (left) and some of his officers patrolled the Grove this morning by bike.
I saw Commander Martin riding around the chamber and NET office earlier today on his bike and then he stopped in on the Merchants Meeting.
It's nice having the cops on bikes around the village, I love the mounted police, too.

I bet the Chief likes the ride in his free Lexus more than on that Trek!
He'll be riding that all the way home in November.
It's real cute that they did a bike parade in the middle of the afternoon. That must have been a lot of fun for them. I wish I could do that for an afternoon and call it work.
Maybe they should be out on bikes when they are needed. It may keep them from hiding in their cars as they generally do.
So it takes 5 cops in formation on a bike to "patrol". Well guess the other areas of the Grove are being well patrolled at the same time with other cops on bikes. Wasn't there an old joke about how many XXX (cops) does it take to xxxxx (patrol one place at one time) - Guess it is 5. Seems it is like the daily early am road bike riders in the grove - only this is "Cops without jobs"
The Chief can enjoy his ride just like Regalado enjoyed his free gas!!
there are a few regular Miami pd I see in the grove who need to start spending a lot more time on their bikes. Calling them chubby would be the understatement of the century.
Hey, some of those cops can use the exercise, if you notice the prominent bellies they have nurtured from spending endless hiding behind trees, hunting for stop-sign tickets, eating doughnuts.. CI
Say what you want but when you need a cop you have a whole different attitude. You put your life on the line every day not knowing if the next person you pull over for speeding is the one that takes your life.....our cops deserve better than what is said in this blog.
Well put anonymous 7/3 1:01 pm. How sad that a cop had to enter a blog in his/her defense and to remind us that they put their life on the line for us every day. I have to say, fire fighters, cops, those who serve in the armed services, and even public servants-like our very own commissioners. All have a thankless job indeed. They work hard to protect us, to make decisions in the best interest of our community, to make sure our rights are respected and upheld, and for what? What a thankless job. You should try diving into a cold canal in the middle of the night pulling youngsters out of a sinking car. You should run into burning building to pull out someone's passed out grandma. I commend all of our "public servants", emphasise on the "servants" part. It takes a special person to do their job. While you bloggers are taking pot shots at them, they will be working hard tonight to save some lives from people celebrating a little too hard on the 4th. To all of our public servants and to troops overseas fighting for our country, I thank you and wish you a safe 4th of July.
