Best 4th of July ever!

fireworks1

All the planning paid off. Yesterday's Coconut Grove 4th of July happened perfectly, and the main concern, the weather, cooperated, too.

It started with the old fashioned picnic at The Barnacle, then eased into the Coconut Scavenger Hunt, the hotdog eating contest was next and then we checked out the new Taurus.

The Art Stroll at Mayfair was fun and the fireworks were the best -- not to mention the live music at Peacock Park, it was first class.

Someone said that they believe 7000 people showed up, I don't know if that was the case, but it did seem like a full house.

The streets were closed after the fireworks show because of all the people. It looked like Halloween night, you know, how crowds just decend on the Grove out of nowhere? Everyone had a great time.

The Commodore Plaza Summer Rendezvous street festival started after the fireworks and we ended up at Aladdin's Grill on Main Highway for a late dinner.

The day started early and ended late and it all went off without a hitch. I'll get into details about each event with photos and stories. Stay tuned.

The 4th was a great time!!! I had so much fun. Only thing, I had passed by the Taurus around 1 or 2 because I saw people walking out. I was quickly pushed out while the hostess told me she was closing the door. "We'll be open to the public at 6" she told me. Not a very good way to start a business. Other than that, I had a great time. I love the closing of Commodore Plaza, that's a great idea.

The Taurus opened at 6 to the public. Not sure why you needed to be let in at 1 pm, before they even knew what was going on.

Reminds me of the person who was upset that I didn't give her the Golden Coconut when she asked for it an hour before the hunt.

We had an absolutely great time! You guys did a fantastic job with the scavenger hunt. I heard nothing but positive feedback from everyone- great job. Such a clever way to expose people to various shops in the area. Hope it becomes a tradition!
(p.s. we've hit the Bookstore and Chicago's in our Grove Buck spending spree...looking forward to checking out a few more places today!)

We had a group of people come over to our house and walked to the festivities... it was a great event and all those who planned it certainly did a great job. This was the best yet and I can hardly wait for next year.

Excellent! The Fireworks were awesome, the bands at Peacock Park were very good, streets were packed, live music everywhere. Thanks to all who contributed, it was a great day. Carlos Iglesia.

Just loved seeing eh people with the arm bands running though the streets and criss crossing each other holding coconuts. Had no Idea what was going on at the time. Don't believe I saw that in the newspaper when I checked for 4th of July events. I did mosey over to the fountain with all the people. That was hilarious.

The Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all the volunteers that helped make the Peacock Park Fireworks such a great success and so much fun for all! And in particular, hats of to Chamber Administrative Director, David Guzikowski for working nonstop on the July 4 events, while still manning all the Chamber's regular duties! Great Job Dave!
