Grand opening party for Kinetic Art Gallery

The Kinetic Art Gallery at 2911 Grand Avenue, next to the Bookstore, is having it's Grand Opening Cocktail Reception Thursday, June 11 from 6:30 to 9 pm.

This is a good chance to see artist Leonard Krakovitch King's amazing 3-D art. Leonard is known for his innovative Kinetic Art forms. The new gallery is the first Kinetic Art Gallery to be opened in Florida. The contemporary artwork features abstract art forms that transform the commonplace into images that interact with the movement of the viewer. There are only 24 Kinetic Art Galleries in the world.

For more than 35 years, Leonard has experimented with a unique art form that began with his invention in 1972 of the Variable Form Abstract Image Reflector, which uses concave mirrors to create intriguing abstract forms that move in the direction of the viewer, creating images that laugh, glide and dance in the viewers’ minds. Through the use of Optic Kinetic construction, Leonard places simple objects in front of the mirrors until shapes and space are artfully shifted to produce abstract images that create beautiful works of art.

Leonard's work is on display in permanent collections at the Miami Beach City Hall, the New England Center for Contemporary Art and the Modern Art Museum in Kiev, Russia. In addition, his work has been published in numerous outlets including Leonardo, Journal of the International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology; in the book “Plastics as Sculpture” in the 70s, Display World Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily, Visual Merchandising and on Public Television.
