Coconut Grove turns out for one of its own

lenny2
Many showed up last night for the grand opening celebration of Leonard Krakovitch King's Kinetic Gallery (2911 Grand Avenue, next to the Bookstore).

Leonard is an old-time Grove artist and lived in the Grove when it was a "real" artists colony in the 1960s and '70s.

Above are Leonard, Barry Massin and Fred Hunt, classic Grove artists.

As many know, Leonard got his inspiration for his kinetic art while walking by windows in downtown Miami, he noticed the way shapes changed as he walked by the reflections.

That is what his kinetic art is all about. No two people see the images the same. If you stop by the gallery, you'll see how the art is set up. Simple construction paper turns into magical art as the randomly cut paper is reflected in the mirrors.

Last night's event not only took over his gallery, but it spilled out onto the streets and bus benches. I don't know how the transit authority feels, but the bus bench ads were turned into art announcements for Leonard, too. You can get more info on Leonard here: http://www.leonardking.com/ .
