We need a signature food

A tourist asked me where to eat. She wanted to know what the Grove is known for. I guess certain cities have certain foods they are known for. We don't.

I wonder what the Grove could or would be known for if we pushed it as a thing to have when visiting. What could that be?

It might be fun to have the bars compete to come up with a signature drink, have a contest and vote for the winner. Our food is way too diverse (a hallmark to celebrate about CG!) to come up with "the" signature food -- but a signature drink might be fun -- especially the process of selecting it! The winner could be announced at the bed race.

I'm with the signature drink competition idea. Think bars would go for it though? And can it *not* have coconut in it? Plz?

Baked Clams. Only in Coconut Grove can you get a kick ass plate of Baked Clams for only $4.95. You have to have been born in New York to understand this.

While I dont really believe there needs to be a signature dish in the Grove, I think the mahi or dolphin sandwich is probably a Grove staple. I also think a coconut cream pie would be something easy for someone to associate with Coconut Grove. That being said though, French cuisine is definitely the most abundant in our tiny community.

What is the grove known for? That's easy, it's known for the Taurus!

Wait... That closed.

Oh, I know! It's known for the Playhouse!

Wait... That closed too.

Oh! I got it! It's known for... no wait, they all closed too.

OK. Maybe I don't know.

Meh, Barracuda is ok.
I would definitely not take my friends there if they come to Miami, there are bout a hundred places that have better fish.
However this is coming from a guy who eats snapper/hogfish a couple of hours after it was swimming

Fresh caught lobster and the boats could pull up to the dock at the end of 27th avenue to show off their catch of the day. This is also a great tourist draw and if the city or code enforcement would assist and allow this to take place daily, 365 days a year, i.e., something dependable that the tourist could be guaranteed access to viewing, taking pictures and actually purchasing their live lobsters and take the catch to local participating restaurant(s) to cook up-----Coconut Grove could come up with something like Joe's Stone Crab. This would pull in a lot of tourist to the Grove, but it must be regular and dependable.

The river already does something similar by having local people come in. The problem with this is your encouraging illegal catch. Lobster season is only a couple of months out of the year. And mini season is one of the most dangerous day out of the year for boaters. e

I dunno...road to hell is paved with good intentions

Anon 11:33 Sorry, you are so right, I should have stated during the season. And in my defense, there's a season on stone crabs, but there's still Joes Stone Crab. When the season is off the restaurants simply take out the frozen ones.

Shouldn't the grove's signature dish be something with, say "Coconut" in it?
