We need a band shell in the park

bandshell
Someone mentioned the idea of regular concerts in Peacock Park. That sounds like a great idea. I travel around the state and many places like St. Pete have this in the center of the city every Friday night.

Each week there is a different genre of music. The park gets very crowded and all of the surrounding businesses benefit and feed off of it, like bars, restaurants, art galleries, coffee shops and so on.

Peacock Park should have a small stage or band shell (I know the band shell is part of the Waterfront Master Plan but we need something now). It could be set up like the movies in the park or even Shakespeare in the Park. I know that the park is not right on top of the merchants, but just getting people to the Grove is the first step. I think many will hang around to eat, drink, etc. before or after or during the concerts.

It should be nothing like the Mother's Day concert, where it was all about the vendors making money, it should be a free people pleasing event, where people are free to bring food and drinks and picnic baskets to the events.

Maybe the Improv could even send over a couple of comedians to tell a few jokes once in awhile.

Speaking of movies in the park, Disney contacted me a short time ago about showing a couple of movies in the park, I think the Chamber is handling that now, so look for a couple of Disney movies possibly this summer.

Actually what Peacock Park really needs is a rest. It's a worn-down and overused piece of real estate, often treated like an old hag... cheap and available for every schlocky event the business owners convinces the City of hosting. The tattered sod, doggie poop, neglected vegetation, obstructed views of the water and endless hang out for the homeless have become the norm. Where are Peacock's friends?

Doggie poop I dont know about.
Hangout for the "homeless", I do know about.

I took a visiting friend for a walk one morning. Around the pier/walkway.

We found four "homeless" BUMBS,
who are accepted by our town, sleeping and vegitating right at the park by the water.

Good for them. They have waterfront views, every morning, when they finally wake up!!

Hey GROOVE! Get all of your B.S.
committees together and make this a place like so many other towns in south Florida. Stop kissing your own butts, believing your own bullshit - and try to become first class. If you really know what that means.

Signed, The Mad Russian

The homeless bums called. They wish that you wouldn't block their morning view. They really don't understand when people in the Grove got so judgemential. Last they checked, all humans were equal and they have just as much right to be in that park as you do. People that understand the grove know that.
By the way, last week we had a historic building torn down because someone deemed it unsightly. As people remove our little pieces of the grove, such as the shrimpers, the old buildings, the homeless guy that picks up trash, the families on Grand Avenue, all you have left is a bunch of snobs that sniff at the thought of homeless people enjoying a morning in the park. Some of those people have been around for 30 years. Now along comes you taking a morning walk and they should relocate themselves like a pile of trash? Why don;t you sit down with them one morning? You might find out that these are real live human beings. If you are jealous of their lifestyle because they don't pay as many bills as you do, you are welcome to join them at any time. You have to be pretty brave to be homeless!
And best of all, they recycle!!!!

The homeless guy who PICKS UP TRASH? Kind of makes me laugh that you really believe these people pick up trash. Rather they are the course of making the areas they sit at look really trashy. Sitting and leaving behind pizza boxes they sit on around the tree. Or old coffee cups they also use to Beg for 80 cents. Sorry I donot agree with your thoughts.

Yes, there is one that picks up trash every morning. Just go ask them and they'll point him out to you.
Oh, and those pizza boxes are left by people from the night before. Most homeless people can't afford pizza in the grove.
