Late night block party on Commodore Plaza?
It will be an all night thing with food, music and lots of partying. It's an experiment to see how things go. Could the 5 am bar closings come back if this goes well?
Just asking . . .

this sounds awesome. lets do it! how bout they extend bar closings to 4am to get a middle ground?
I look forward to both, the block party and the 5am bar closing
Awsome!
Let's give the Grove freedom again!
PARTY!!!!
How about we just keep the 3am bar closings and the heavy imbibers head downtown to the real Entertainment District? I hear the entertaiment includes stabbings and shootings - now that's entertaiment!
Please!
Nothing wrong with having a good time and enjoying the small pleasures of life.
If you are bitter about life, please allow other to live!
Move to a Retirement Home!
Commissioner Sarnoff would never allow a 4A.M. closing.
You really think the people who find 3 or 4 am bar closings reasonable should be in retirement homes? Maybe you should be in South Beach.
OH MY GOD! It'll be anarchy! :)
To Jackson 95!!!
The Grove was never a quiet retirement village. It was always a place to go and enjoy the diversity of restaurants, bars etc.
....If you hate life and want to die, please do it alone and let the Grove be!Or move "The Palace"
Bring back 5am closing! Or all the bars will be literally "closing" (out of business)! We're losing a lot of $ in those two hours!
Does anyone remember what time closing time was when the Grove was overly crowded with people every weekend? (Hint: It wasn't 5am] Three things killed the party in the Grove. 1. Cocowalk (I worked on Commodore in those days and its sucked the life right out of the village inn. 2. Miami Beach and the Art Deco Revival. 3. Change in the drinking age from 21 to 18. Of course, this is just my opinion.
Anon 5:57 am. First, I'm glad to see that you're a morning person. ;-) But seriously, I don't think that the 80s are that relevant to how or why the grove's business is currently slumped (the move from 19 -21 happened in '85, just fyi, it had been bumped up from 18 5 years prior). I just dont think a comparions to conditions a quarter century ago provides a useful model. We can't shut the beach, downtown and cocowalk down can we?
We have to do more things like this. Festivals, parties, events not just hosted by one bar or restaurant but by them all. Shut down the streets and let people wander around.
Also, the open container law in the grove which is at best selectively enforced needs to be repealed. I will be bringing this matter up before the council and commission.
