I got lost in the Age of Aquarius

grove2
I went back in time to the vintage Coconut Grove, with a little Woodstock, New York, thrown in.

It's right across US1 at the little shopping center off of 27th Avenue, I wrote about the grand opening
here.

It's a nice 1960s hippy vibe when you visit the backyard entrances of the stores. This red scene above is behind one store and the tropical scenes below link to the other side. It's interesting little feng shui patio gardens -- another world, full of incense, candles, pillows and peace.

At left is Jackie working on Sammy's hair at the Lakshami Salon, my friend Jerry gets his hair cut there.

Below are Jennie (left) and Rosa, from The Grove store at 2759 SW 27 Avenue. One of the little funky shops at the little funky timewarp center. Along with The Grove and Lakshimi is the Mosaic Academy, a photography studio and Invasion sneaker store. And ironically, next to Rosa's Grove store, full of peace symbols and signs (including Rosa below giving the peace sign), there is a gun shop.

If some folks tried to rob this lady and perhaps more, would it then be ironic if someone from the gun store saved her life by getting involved with their gun?

A few years ago where that store is now there was a place called "In Limbo". They used to sell furniture from Thailand, India ect, also pollows, incense etc. It was great! and the owner's name was Rosa. Is this the same person?

I asked her a few weeks ago and I think the answer was yes. Rosa told me she would like to be in the Grove, but the rents are excessive. Rosa's store, the environment is truly a sincere desire to say "WELCOME" "ENJOY"
"RELAX" "FRIENDLY". The colors create a mindset-----this is a must see beautiful, colorful experience and you will go away with a smile outside or inside your skin.

And, if this is the same Rosa, I think she had the store in Islamorada with the alligator in the back. Perfect!

Great piece, Grape!

Made an idea just pop right into my head -- HAIR should be performed in Peacock Park SOMEDAY! The Shakespeare presentations are wonderful, but think how groovey-grovey to bring HAIR back!!!!!!!!!

There is a Colt revolver called The Peacekeeper. So.....it's not entirely contradictory.

the feeling of the old grove seems alive at this store. it brings back memories of the skate rentals at the abandoned gas station (where cocowalk is now) and seeing the win dixie and laundromat across the street where the "mayfair" is now and just remembering...........

I love this shop. And funnily enough, Jackie's been doing my hair for a couple of years now. Both places are right up my alley!
