Keep it in the Grove with Code 33 and save big

Sue McConnell has been quite busy these days, she has signed up a lot of new Code 33 clients in the Grove, I'm quite impressed. I've been out with her on these calls and it's a tedious process.

One big change is at Greenstreet (3468 Main Highway) where they added 20% off take out and 20% off food and drink at the bar. That's a big discount. They also have their current wine specials probably the best wine prices in town.

The whole Code 33 list is here, we are even part of Code 33, we offer 20% off advertising rates. Below are the newest additions:

Allure Salon (3405 Main Hwy.) 15% off any salon service, 10% retail products, free haircut w/highlights, $30 men's haircut; $40 reg. mani/pedi.
Angelo & Maxie's Steakhouse (Mayfair, 3000 Florida Ave.) 10% off food only
Artway 66 Gallery & Photo Studio (Cocowalk 2nd level) $10 off purchase of $75 or more inc. photo services
Atchana's East West Kitchen (Mutiny 2951 S. Bayshore Dr.) 10% off food only

Chart House (51 Charthouse Dr.) 3 course meal $29 (prime rib, shrimp fresca, jumbo lump crab cakes, herb crusted salmon, inc. appetizer and dessert) Sun-Thurs only.
Chili's (Cocowalk 3rd level) 10% off dine in only
Eleven Leprechauns Restaurant & Pub (3120 Commodore Plaza) 10% food only

Johari Hair Salon and Spa (2940 Oak Ave.) 10% off Tues & Wed - new clients only inc. reg. priced lingerie
Sekai Asian Bistro (3480 Main Hwy.) 10% food only (former Senor Frogs location)
Top of the Walk Int'l Gallery (Cocowalk 2nd level) artistic clothing & accessories $10 off purchase of $75 or more
Tula and Tupi Children's Boutique (3133 Commodore Plaza) 15% off regularly priced items

Code 33 decals are displayed in store windows - always ask what the merchant offers - offerings differ at various businesses. Let the merchant know you will be using Code 33 before they ring up your sale.

If you live or work in Coconut Grove, you can obtain a Code 33 card by emailing Sue with your name, personal email, and address here:
mcconnell28@msn.com.

If you are a merchant and would like to participate in the program, please email Sue and an application will be mailed to you. There is a one-time fee of $20 that covers, decals, membership cards and postage.

The program was initiated several years ago by Marc Sarnoff while he was President of the Village of Center Grove and before he became a Commissioner. It is designed to keep people eating and shopping in Coconut Grove. Please frequent the merchants that want your business and help keep the Grove green and save green in the process.

This is great idea, now go out and get most if not all commercial property owners and/or the Grove landlords to sign up and give 20% off all leases and rentals in Coconut Grove, Florida and maybe just maybe a few more might survive and then the business could add a few more percentage points off their wares. Everyone must pitch in here.

10% off is a nice perk for us Grove residents, but I personally don't think it's a motivating enough incentive to persuade me to dine at one place over another.

I'm definitely not "kicking a gift horse in the mouth" – after all, it was nice saving a some bucks at Maya Hatcha this weekend. Point is, I would've shopped there anyway.

At Jaguar they offer Code 33 and accept Primecard - which gives 25% off. You can't combine the two, so guess which one we all use - even at happy hour! (Would've gone there anyway)

We need to get Berries to offer Code 33! Can't believe they don't...

(I just wrote a nice review for them in MyCityEats mag- out next week. Check it out. Learned some "in the kitchen" things that really make them stand out.) They're doing a great job!

And what will you be doing while the rest of us are trying to help the residents and the merchants? Maybe you could encourage Berries to sign up. Maybe you could go around and ask the landlords to lower rents? If you don't want to use your Code 33, don't! The rest of us love it.

I love Code 33 because part of what you save covers the sales tax or goes toward the tip. I shop stores that have sales with percentages off and it is like getting your lunch "on sale."

Yes I too, asked to speak with a manager when the waiter said they didn't take C33 at Berries. The manager didn't come, but the waiter reported that "he had no idea what that is."

And now I read the G-street is giving me 20% off takeout/bar? That did definitely just take away all the take out business I currently give Berries.
