The Grove had a very European flavor during Bike Day
It turns out that over 3000 people visited the Grove for Miami Bike Day last weekend, the largest group yet! And it was declared by many who have participated in other Miami Bike Days, as the best one yet. I have only heard good things about Sunday's event, from everyone.
The Grove had a very European flair about it during Bike Day. More than one person told me that, too. There was just something about the people, the bikes, the lack of many motor vehicles. Commodore Plaza's resturants were full and it was just a day for friends to have a good time visiting with friends.
The streets were buzzing and people weren't looking for the things we always talk about, that we always say we are lacking -- certain stores, restaurants, parking, etc.. It seems that just having a bunch of friends enjoying the day, the Grove, the whole vibe, is all that was needed. It did not come down to material things.
We need more of this. This is what the Grove is about and this is how we need to express ourselves and market ourselves to everyone. It's a feeling, a vibe, an experience.

You are so right on!
That is moving in the right direction
Great day. European flavor is right, and the Grovites are proving they know a thing or 2 about "Savoir Vivre" Excellent. Hopefully it will become a monthly event. Sunday mornings. A few hours. They do this in many cities Worldwide and it's great for people just to WALK the streets, bike, Run, Skate, one day per month. Thanks again too all the officials who organized this. The businesses will boom too, again, next time. Carlos Iglesia.
I really hope this does not lose it's "novelty"
I wish there was not so many things going on at the same day. Dragon boat festival, bike days, japanese tea garden festival etc.
Great event though.
The easygoing old town atmosphere is Coconut Grove's main attraction. The street light on the first photo beats the new utilitarian one they are going to replace it with.
A feeling, a vibe, an experience is the essence of the Grove.
Market it, package it, sell it and we lose our authenticity.
Is that new red bike rack really in the middle of the bike path or am I having another flashback? Is the city promoting bike days while little by little taking away the only bike path we have through the grove (black info booth)? I can see the headline now: "Biker hurt running into bike rack in middle of official bike trail." Only in Miami! I wonder what our officials will us our tax dollars for next to block our bike trail?
Anon 5:51,
Let me clear it up for you... you're having another flashback. The bike rack is close to the coral rock wall, next to but not in the bike path. The "Only in Miami" concept here is that the location is convenient to bikers.
Let me clear this up for you: The black box is in the middle of the Commodore Bike Path. The new bike rack is a little to the side and won't be a problem if the bikes are attached sideways. If bikes are place perpendicular to the street, it will be blocking the BIKE PATH. That is a bike path. It should not be blocked, not by a black information booth and not by a bike rack. Wouldn't you be scratching your head if you were driving down a street and parking spaces were placed IN THE STREET? I do admit that having parking spaces in the middle of the street would be convenient for me if that was were I was stopping, but the people that actually use the street to drive their cars might think that the middle of the street is an inconvenient spot for a parking lot. That spot might be a perfect spot for you to put your bike, which is great for you. I, for one, think we should keep our officially designated bike path. We should start with the black booth, though, since that is the larger item blocking the path. It was foolish that the black box was allowed in our bike path, but that doesn't make it okay to now further block our access with a bike rack.
