Tigertail traffic issues discussed
Ransom Everglades' traffic was the major issue. Since they moved their entrance from Emathla Street to Tigertail, neighbors have freaked out at the sudden slow down of traffic movement at certain times.
Police Commander Martin spoke on the issue of speeders and people driving erratically, trying to get through the blocked traffic caused by Ransom. The police have been out monitoring traffic and giving tickets to those crazy drivers.
According to the school, the wait time is 15 minutes, so if you can avoid the area, do so when school lets out if it bugs you to wait the 15 minutes. Ransom has also staggered times for their after school activities, so that there is no traffic at all (the soccer team leaves one time, the band another time and so on).

You know....sometimes I like the Grove because its like a small village, but other times I dont like the Grove because its like a small village.
Just go around and find an alternate route. More power to the cops giving tickets.
The problem with tigertail has little to do with traffic or traffic patterns. The problem with it is that it's the single worst road surface in the entirety of coconut grove, including the west grove. And the second issue is tha it's either the most biked or second most biked pathway in coconut grove, and someone is going to get maimed or killed on a bicycle there within a year if something isn't done (the dangerous part is at the light on aviation where there is a mid intersection curve in the road, and people come around it in cars nearly hitting bicyclists on a regular basis). For the record, I don't even currently own a bicycle, but I live out on tigertail and see this all the time. The road surface and pothole issues cause most drivers to look like they're trying to warm up the tires before a big race as they swerve every 100 feet or so around one thing or another. It's ludicrous, especially considering the taxes that we are paying for the houses out here.
I travel Tigertail everyday on my commute home. "That guy" is right - the road itself is in the worst condition than any other Grove road. Ive had many flats and dented rims over the years from that one. The traffic is a real bitch and, yes, its all to do with Ransom. The people leaving that school cause a major backup. Im lucky to know some back ways to avoid Tigertail but if everyone was doing that youre damn sure the residents in those neighborhoods would be pitching a fit daily. I guess I dont understand why so many pickups at a school are happening at 530pm but I also dont have a kid so what do I know...
That guy said,,,
I totally agree. I've been biking or running through the Grove for almost 4 years now almost every day. And live right around Aviation. South Bayshore Dr. is by far the most biked/ran roadway in the Entire Grove, and perhaps Miami, if you look out the window on a Sunday morning.. And it's also a veritable mine-field, uneven pavement, holes, no bike lanes, no paint, debris all over, no signs, a real mess. Especially on sigle lane areas, where you'd better have good health insurance and just pray bikers/cars are paying attention. many more serious accidents are just waiting to happen. Not if, but when.
We sometimes use Tiger Tail on the race-bikes, even at the cost of expensive repairs from the all-terrain bumpy rides. I do during rush-hour week-days, it's still very dangerous, but traffic is slower and we can warm-up until we hit Key Biscayne down to Crandon and Bill Baggs. There, you have real Bike Paths, on that well-run adjacent city, taxes put to good use. The roads are constantly repaved, bridges, side-roads, verywhere. That's where we start to have some fun on speed bikes, or where runners/skaters/walkers also go to enjoy their runs more safely.
I highly reccomend double-suspension rugged mountains bikes, a very good helmet for Tiger Tail and S.Bayshore, until our so called "representatives" do something to fix this, also for runners - btw- with our generous taxes.
It might take a few more serious accidents for change to actually happen, not just these cute, laughable little "bike racks" on Peacock park..
