Pouring our tax dollars into the pockets of the rich

So the Marlins stadium was approved last night. County Manager George Burgess and Marlins President David Samson looked like two little rats, rubbing their hands together, like you see in the cartoons. Sickening. You could just see them counting the money in their heads they both will probably make.

You would think they are getting millions themselves. Are they? They both mortgaged their childrens' and grandchildrens' futures. This is what greed looks like folks. Look at these pigs.

How County Mayor Carlos Alvarez (shown looking on in the background) ever got mixed up in this I don't know. I always thought he had brains, but I am stymied by his pro-stance on this issue.

Is Burgess on the Marlins' payroll? If not, why does he act like he is? I thought the County Manager should be protecting the public's money and interests, not pissing it all away. I bet he would be in favor of the AIG bonus plan, too.

The only County Commissioners who actually care about the voters are Carlos Gimenez, Sally Heyman, Katy Sorenson and Joe Martinez. Sorenson did an excellent job of explaining what a farce this truly is.

We can be proud of our own district commissioners Carlos Gimenez (County) and Marc

Sarnoff (City). They voted like mensches and of course Tomás Regalado, who is running for mayor, voted with his brains and with the majority of the public's wishes, too.

And this photo at right shows you why I am for Tomás Regalado for Mayor. [Photo removed at request of the Miami Herald -- it showed Joe Sanchez whispering into Mayor Manny Diaz's ear at the Commission meeting, all buddy buddy]>

And I'll never understand the "no bid" bit. Even here at our condo, they throw a fit if I don't get bids for a simple plumbing job.

This calls for a contest to guess a series of dates such as the first news of cost overruns, the announcement that the team has been sold and/or that Burgess has joined the Marlin's management because of his intimate knowledge of contract details that will foist additional charges onto local government.

Conrete Manny has left a legacy of greed and overdevelopment for his children. How does he look them in the face? And Joe Sanchez just smells crooked.

What a waste, the stadium is never filled to capacity. This is greed! I'm disgusted, we need to protest even more!

Cooler heads prevailed. Miami is deserving of this stadium. The vocal minority has once again been defeated.

If it were such a great idea, private enterprise would be financing it.

I agree Grape. Carlos Alvarez seems like a pretty smart guy. I doubt that's changed for this one project. Maybe he, and Joe Sanchez, and Manny Diaz, and our City Manager and Angel Gonzalez and Michelle Spence-Jones and most of the County Commissioners are relying on facts you either don't have or haven't fully considered. I was never a big supporter of these things but when I saw the numbers and understood where they came from and what they could or couldn't be used for, and considered the potential impact of the stadium in the short and long term, I decided it was worthy of my support.

Mark your calendar and five years from now let's revisit this and see what we think then. Maybe you and I can ride our bikes over there to see a game and then go out at some cool establishment that's popped up nearby. And while at the game we'll be cool and won't get rained on!

Michelle I agree with you on the stadium, I think in the end it will be "ok" not great, not magnificent just ok.
And if I was just a casual observer to Miami Politics I would probably vote for Joe, good looking guy, voted for a stadium. However voted also for more condos *ahem mercy* and bigger buildings. He is closely aligned to Manny...who 8 years ago I voted for thinking he would bring a fresh change, boy was I wrong.
And that is just off the top of my head.

you can't say the public was raped when they bent over and asked for it. I hope the karma police pay these asshats back tenfold.

Bellow are the names of the City of Miami Commissioners and Miami-Dade County Commissioners that voted to make this really bad deal to authorize the building of the Marlin’s Stadium with out our consent.

Please remember these names at the next election and vote them out of office.

Miami-Dade County Commissioners:
Dennis Moss, Bruno Barreiro, Audrey Edmonson, Natacha Seijas, Javier Souto, Barbara Jordon, Dorian Rolle, Jose “Peep” Diaz and Rebeca Sosa.

City of Miami Commissioners:
Joe Sanchez, Michelle Spence-Jones and Angel Gonzalez

With any luck some of them will be caught in a scandal and indicted before the next election.

I am sure the supporters of the Miami Arena said the same things about that venue - now it is just a pile of rubble

The County wants the stadium to be deemed to hold citizens in the event of a disaster - it would make a great tent city. Or on the off season we could put the sex offenders that are under the Julia Tuttle Causeway.

In Miami politics the biggest wolf pack takes the biggest prize. The horizon is bleak for any society with this type of environment. I saw such arrogance and contradiction in the comment by Michelle Niemeyer: "County Commissioners are relying on facts you either don't have or haven't fully considered" sure, that is seriously revealing. Let's not delve into the rest of her comment.

I think the whole Regalado debate is answered quite simply.
He wanted the people to vote.

Great point 7:52. I don't mind that any commissioner disagreed with me on the stadium deal; however, I certainly mind that they didn't want those footing the bill to have a vote!

Joe Sanchez could have suggested that the voters decide but his handlers told him that would kill the Marlins bailout. Joe could not let that happen. Too many Latin Builder types and too many of Joe's campaign contributors are feeding at the trough. Public corruption and No-Bid contracts go hand in glove.
