It's Flipper and the Godfather all over again
I hate get off subject, and not report on Grove events, but this is an important City of Miami issue.
Old Grover created the graphic at left and Harry Emilio Gottlieb created the graphic at right. The Michelle-Spence Jones graphic refers to the Herald story, where she is asking for her fair share of the Marlins money. And Jeffrey Loria, the rich owner of the Marlins, is said to want to flip the stadium once taxpayers give him the money, so he can double his money.
It's a great way to make money in these hard economic times -- screw the taxpayers. At least he is not foolish enough to ask Obama for a stimulus package, Obama would laugh in his face, something that the local politicians may be too greedy themselves to do.
If this vote passes in favor of Loria and the Marlins, I see a big political cleaning up in the City and County. I think voters would dump every single person who is in office now when elections roll around. That could be a good thing.

We hear Jeffrey Loria cannot wait to sell. If he cons a majority of the commissioners into giving him the taxpayers money to build a stadium and a garage he will get to sell the team for a $200 mil to a $300 mil profit which would be a profit of 10,000% or more on his meager investment. Remember he bought the Marlins using almost no money down.
The documents show how the entire stadium and garage scheme is basically a no money down deal for the Marlins. It is the taxpayers who get stuck paying at least $2 billion over 40 years. No money down for the privately owned Marlins and a royal screwing of the taxpayers.
If professional sports are so popular and successful, why can't they pay their own way?
Will Sanchez and Spence-Jones vote with the interests for all the taxpayers or will they vote for the lobbyists and contractors who want the no-bid contracts?
Sanchez and Spence-Jones can either take a long term view and decide the bed tax revenues cannot support the scheme OR they can vote for who will fill their campaign coffers as they run for office this November.
Does anyone really think that after all is said and done that any of this info is worth a grain of salt?
I petitioned both state senators and got canned email responses about the stimulus package in return. Great. If this stadium deal is passed when education is in dire straits in SoFL, then hopefully it will prove we need some intervention down here
Our own little Coconut Grove Elementary is in need of basics for the education of our future and we are blowing all this money and getting minimal in return.
