Is there a secret "flip deal" in works for new Marlins stadium?

I have been hearing rumors that the Marlins owners plan on just flipping the stadium once taxpayers hand them the money. I don't know if it's true, I have no facts, it is only a rumor. But see if a couple of big shot local developers don't buy the stadium on a flip from current owners, after the city and county hand over the taxpayer dollars to the Marlins, which will allow the Marlins' current owners to double their money overnight -- all on the backs of the scammed taxpayers.

And will the developers involved even put a stadium there or some other type of real estate development? In fact, will the Marlins even stay in Miami? They only have about 5000 fans.

I agree with Commissioner Marc Sarnoff's idea of having the Marlins pay back the taxpayers before they see any profits of their own. Once we are repaid, they can sell anything they want. No flipping please, or we'll all flip out.

I dont think there is a flip, however but I agree with Sarnoff preventing from doing so.
I agree with both Regalado and Sarnoff on capping the project and limiting the tax payer money.
Why dont the Marlins divulge how much they make?

Making that request was the smartest thing Sarnoff has ever done and quite possibly the first time he has had his citizens' concerns and best interests in front of mind.

I'm of the mind that this should be handled as the bailout should have been handled from the beginning. If you want taxpayer money open your books for at least the last 5 years, then if you do get it, the taxpayers own an interest in or note against the team until you buy us out. Easy, simple, and ya know, kind of what any investor demands - minus the chance of any return.

sarnoff just may get my vote back after this, i just wish he would question the whole idea of putting this stadium in for the 5,000 fans. people in miami don't go to baseball games. why is that so hard to understand?

Thank you Sarnoff for being the only one to stand up for the community.

Baseball is hugely popular in the U.S. and in Latin America, at least the Caribbean part where a lot of our residents come from. Maybe no one goes to Marlins games because Dolphins stadium is too far away, it's too hot in the sun, and you get rained on half the time. It's better for Dolphins games because it's cooler and dryer during their season. I'd be willing to be that if we have a nice baseball stadium in Miami the Marlins will have fans.

Why is our so called Transparent Government not willing to place this monumental issue of building the Marlins Baseball Stadium with taxpayers money (bed tax) on a referendum and let the people vote? There are plenty of other more important projects that are needed by our community then a baseball field for the rich owners, rich players and the few folks that desire and can afford to attend a baseball game. Our elected leaders and the courts should have a little more faith in our citizens and in their choices to know what is right for our community and our future.

Anon @ 12:54 - you would think this would be true but its not. People dont go to the games because they dont care for baseball and there are a lot of other options for activities here in Miami during the summer. Besides, the fans in Miami are the worst around for just about every sport, especially baseball. The stadium is a waste of money and an insult to our intelligence as citizens. Its time to stop being pushed around.

I appreciate Marc Sarnoff representing my interests on this issue.

Please folks don't get the idea that Commissioner Sarnoff was thinking of you. He is for the stadium and knows how the vote will be on March 12th. He is so in bed with the developers .. look at his voting record! He knows it will pass and wanted to ask the right questions.....Don't trust him. Why does he require, at the expense of the taxpayers, a public relations officer for his office? Don't be fooled! It may look like he represents your interests, but he represents his own interests. Ask yourself why he has his head up Manny's behind and locked?!?!?

Sarnoff knows about the flip deal and is very upset over it. He doesn't want samson to flip the stadium overnight after getting the money.

Someone needs to slap commissioners Sarnoff and Regalado around and put back some community sense into them. This is a huge municipal project that will bring in jobs into the area for several years. It'll also bring much needed business into the area as in restaurants, bars, etc.

The tax dollars being used can only be used for these types of projects, building a new ballpark for the Marlins is a great boost for the local economy and will be a showcase for many years to come.

Sardoff and Regalado came to this meeting with a short-sighted agenda that could very well doom this project and force the Marlins to move to another city. It'll be a sad day for the City of Miami to lose one of its sports teams because of the pathetic malicious little people of Miami like Sardoff and Regalado.

NO TO PAYING MILLIONS TO MILLIONAIRES. ENOUGH WITH THE BAILOUTS. NO TO THE STADIUM DEAL.

The Marlins Bailout is a terrible deal for the taxpayers of Miami-Dade County. And of course, the taxpayers of the City of Miami are getting stuck with a $94 million garage that will likley end up costing $150 million. The Marlins refuse to pay a cent towards the construction of the garage. (They expect the usual cost overruns).

Convention Development Tax dollars and Tourist Development Tax dollars are supposed to be used to attract conventions and to attract tourists.

Historically civilization LOVED gladiators and people thrown to the lions. Historically people loved circus animals and now that's crulety to animals. Attendance is off at horse & dog racing events & rooster fighting events, as well as baseball. Here, now, today, in numerous casinos they are just starting in with pig races and betting against chickens---seriously! With or with Sarnoff, a contract, an agreement or even the law; it can all be changed and degraded in an instance with the sweep of someone's pen, be they a public official or someone behind them.
I don't watch baseball because to me it's boring, just like watching all those people being torn apart by lions or gladiators killing each other, either boring or out of taste. Simply as a taxpayer I say enough is enought----period. We are about to have some very important things happening here, there and everywhere and baseball for Miami should not be on any agenda.

The City is pushing the Marlins stadium under the guise of JOBS! Build affordable housing. If "JOBS" wasn't the buzz word of the day, they wouldn't have anything to hang their hat on. Keep up the good work Comm. Sarnoff - there is more to be had for the taxpayers - please fight for us.

The Marlins already have people employed. They are at Dolphins Stadium 20 miles north of Miami. There are no new jobs, the current job holders will just drive 20 miles south to a new taxpayer financed stadium. All a scam.

The Marlins want to hire an architect and a contractor from Texas. And the Marlins owner and President live in New York City. On Fifth Avenue.

So why is Carlos Alvarez so eager to give away our money?
