If it ain't broke, don't fix it -- bring the Taurus back
Sammy C's will be closing Sunday. A new Italian seafood place will be taking over in a few weeks.
Sammy C returned to New Jersey a few months ago and now they have a new partnership with the restaurant group that owns Carpaccio in Bal Harbour and Villagio at Merrick Park. Most of the staff, headed by Myriam Aguilera, are staying.
Carpaccio Grove is in the running for the new name.
But keep in mind the Mangoheads are still having their party there tomorrow at Sammy C's which is still there until Sunday.
The Taurus was in that location for years, perhaps they can bring back that managment who knew how to keep the business running for more than just a few months. But seriously, Carpaccio Grove sounds great. To get an idea of "their vision" check out: http://villagiomerrickpark.com/

Villagio is great. Let's hope they can emulate the same environment and crowd
The fact is that the Taurus itself had something of a revolving door management in its final years. Although the name stayed the same, there were changes in management, none of which worked out, and the place finally folded and was sold out to the developers.
I moved here after the heyday of the Taurus, but everyone kept saying how great it was so my husband and I went for dinner. We were the only people there. That happened twice, and then we never went back.
I like Villagio, I think it will work in the grove as long as they keep the prices reasonable, portions dont have to be huge. Just good food at a good price.
I thought it did well when it was Cefalo's, but I guess I was wrong. There were complaints of snobby staff(of course)and lackluster food. How about a Panera bread and Einstein Bagels there? I know you may not like chains, but nothing seems to do well there...
I love dining at Carpaccio's in Bal Harbour. The service is wonderful and the staff actually work together. If they can transplant that same GREAT and over-the-top service and good food, Carpaccio's in the Grove will be a HIT. I've always said to myself, "why don't they have one in the Grove"? This is great news. Good food, good wine, good prices and great service is the key!
Sammy C's announced loud and clear that it wasn't interested in a broad-based clientele when it made itself into Obama HQ.
Just sayin'.
SWLIP -- Sammy C's happened to host Obama supporters who chose to meet there. Sammy C's did not go out solicting political parties. They just accommodated large groups with discounts. They would have done it for everyone. They are doing it for the Mangoheads tonight.
The MangO-Bama-Heads. I know.
swilp here you go with your political incorrectness because Sammy C's also hosted something for the republican side before, are you trying to say this is why if failed? woe, slip you can't let it go... yes Obama is president, so stop acting like a baby!
Anon 4:35,
Swlip ain't acting.
Taurus had parking and a great crew who knew the clients. The location now has no parking but expensive valet and the crew are uninspired. Bring back the Taurus!
Swlip, you need to grow up.
Hey everyone, just a head's up that the old Taurus Bar will indeed be making a comeback with a new name, new management, and 2 owners that know exactly what you mean. The property needs a face lift and what it's missing is the vibe from Taurus Bar & the memory you all left behind!
