Coconut Grove are you ready for BarCamp?

Upwards of 500 people will be gathering at Anokha on Sunday, February 22 for BarCamp Miami.

BarCamp is a very popular techie event held all over the world. Previously it was at the Arsht Center downtown. Now we have it in the Grove and it truly is an honor. I've been learning about it on Twitter. It seems to be all over the place.

According to their website, this is where "new media, social media, their startups, their ideas, everything related to WordPress, and more. This is the opportunity for local new media professionals and aficionados to meet each other and to meet those who have traveled from across the US and from overseas to participate. Best of all, this is a free event and everyone who wishes to present … is welcome to present."

Barcamp is from 11 am to 5 pm. Anokha is at 3324 Virginia Street. More info
here.

I will be contacting the Chamber, Merchants Group, BID and others about specials and deals for the BarCamp attendees. I'll announce them here when I know what they are and I'll explain to BarCamp attendees how to get them. Come back for that and you may read the Grapevine for up-to-date Coconut Grove news in the meantime.

Thanks so much for mentioning this. I wouldn't have known otherwise, and it's right up my alley. I'll definitely be there. I'm pretty excited about the Wordcamp portion as well. It's a bit of a shame though, that I definitely couldn't afford to go to the Future of Web Apps conference the next day though.

Grape,
Thanks for the writeup! This is going to be a fun event. 500 people have RSVPd so there will be a LOT of movers and shakers in the tech community are coming.

Would be excellent if we can get the grove merchants involved somehow.

I am trying to organize a geek dinner for after the event somewhere in the grove (need suggestions), likely 50+ show up.

I have already gotten the Chamber of Commerce involved. The geeks will be well taken care of.

Hope Sarnoff doesn't see this. It's not his "demographic" or "vision" and he may not allow the younger guys in town.

Are you kidding me? Sarnoff looks like he was shoved in more than a few lockers and given quite a few wedgies when he was in school. The geeks will be welcomed.

Grape, this kind of event very important to what the Grove has to offer. I provide my boat to take as many tours into the Bay to show these people how we in the Grove appreciate their presence. I'll catch some lobster and fish and eat at my home for free.

I look forward to hearing all those techies speak with an Indian accent.
