Busy, colorful, artistic weekend comes to an end

arts-fest
Another end to another exciting Coconut Grove Arts Festival and St. Stephen's Arts Show. We enjoyed the high tea at the St. Stephen's today. We had scones and tea. I refused to hold out my pinkie as I drank the tea, though.

Even with the overpriced food, admission charges and art, the Arts Festivals were fun and will be missed until next year.

Grape, You taught me how to enjoy good news and positive thoughts about my community. You bring out the best that the Grove has to offer and I greatly appreciate a new direction.

The art show(s) is an event to be looked forward to each year whether you're buying or browsing. Begrudgingly have anted up the $5 admission since it began but this year the additional $2 charge was really uncalled for. I don't know anyone who doesn't grasp the fact that we're in the worst financial environment most of us have ever seen (or imagined) and real people are losing real jobs, all around us. South Florida is one of, if not THE hardest hit areas for mortgage fraud and failure in the entire country, and people are genuinely hurting. And in this atmosphere, the admission price is raised to $7 from $5. No, in the scheme of things $2 isn't much, but the timing of this increase is insensitive and smacks of the same type of greed that got us in the mess to begin with.

Having said that, I wonder how well the artists who were exhibiting actually fared? I spoke with a few who said they hadn't sold anything - and we didn't go to the show unil Monday. I myself did not see many people walking around with purchases (other than a tiki torch or two) - - what about you??
