Plans are in the works to add a nice bike path along the road with new foliage including plants and trees.

Great!! Does anyone know who's working on this project, who's got the bike path plans?
so why does bird ROAD suddenly change to avenue as you cross US1, aren't avenues supposed to run north/south (is it a wacky coconut grove thing to make everything reversed?) i.e. virginia st is parallel to 27th ave...
As for the anomalies in the Grove street names, my guess is that these may be remnants of the names in effect at the time of the Grove's annexation by the City of Miami in the 1920s.
Brian - roads and aves run the same direction. When I moved here, my buddy told me to remember CRAP. Courts, Roads, Aves, and Places all run the same way. Streets run opposite.
Blind Mind,
Brian was asking about why Grove street names do NOT follow that convention, e.g, Bird Avenue is perpendicular to S.W. 27th Avenue.
Why is bird getting a bike path, while Tigertail, easily the most biked road in coconut grove, still doesn't have one? I'm encouraged that work is being done, and simply hope that this is the beginning of several steps including fixing 27th.
I believe "Bird Rd" is just its 2nd name. I think its really SW 40th Street. Kinda like 57th Ave is also known as "Red Rd". I could be wrong though...
