We need our Martini drinkers back among other things
Does Coconut Grove have the offerings that people spending money want? "We lost our martini drinkers," Dave Collins, head of the BID says. "We need to get them back."
He said there's been enough talk, now resources and intelligence will be applied toward the solution. Yesterday's Merchant's meeting was a start.

Want your martini drinkers back? Then show me a place that can make a hand-crafted cocktail. You know, something besides a jagerbomb?
The idea clashes with all the UM d-bags that show up night after night, I know. It doesn't have to be that way.
I bet good money if you had the right style, grace, and more importantly *content*, you'd get a lot of ladies--and where the ladies go, monies follow.
Too bad we lost Speak Easy. Showed a lot of promise.
Just my 2¢.
Parking is a huge issue....and the Grove is too family oriented, not enough sex appeal for the single, professional martini drinker. I have worked as a bartender and server at The Ritz, The Mayfair and Christabelles.....there is no scene here. But good luck. I would love to see the Grove get better. I still live in the area. Who is on this committee? Really, are they scene makers?
what Speak Easy did we lose?
where was it in the Grove?
Areas that want to attract more crowds have shorter parking meter collection hours, stop charging after 6pm for meters and you will see what will happen. Tell the city parking spaces to do a similar thing or at least give a major break on their fees. Make the Grove more inviting.
A few years back there was a major study done by Chesapeake Group, an urban development consultant, who received one million dollars for the study. The whole study should become available online since we all paid for it, you can find a short synopsis at the following link:

I am a martini drinker in the grove and every week my friends and I go out, but my group has been getting smaller over the past few weeks and this is mostly because of parking.
Three hours limit at the meeter has them running back, a few minutes late and they have a ticket.
We used to park at the playhouse but parking there went up to $12 for the evening, not to mention the parking attendants giving the wrong change way too often.
Parking is the major issue in the grove, I can say from my friends that used to come here alot before, now they will not come near it.
The lack of avarge priced stores and casual shopping is the other issue.
The fancy boutiques just don't work for most people in this economy. We need some down to earth businesses serving food and drinks at common prices, we need places to open before noon and have a place for breakfast that is not starbucks.
We need a better mix of luxury and common sense businesses. The grove seems to always go to one extreme or the other, truth is we need both.
Parking however is the biggest issue here.
