They want to actually see and smell the paint
The drum circle has moved closer to the center of town. They are usually at the plaza at Mayfair and now have moved to Virginia Street and Grand Avenue.
Look for them more often and also for artists. There will be artists and musicians on the streets every weekend starting soon. I'm not sure how the musicians are going to be handled, I was the go between with some local schools and the Merchants Board and BID and they will handle the rest.
As for artists; that is being coordinated, too. Artists won't just set up in the streets. All artists need to be accepted into the program. For sign up forms and to be considered as a street artist, please email groovinginthegrove@yahoo.com.
Working artists will actually have to prove that they produced the art and that it is not some wholesale bought or imported pieces. They literally have to paint in public, not just show the art for sale.

This is GREAT. The more music and Art is our streets, the better. It could help redefine the Grove as the cool, hip spot, not a snobbish Mall of plastic stores like many other places.
Many of us wil be out there more if there's more Live music in the streets.
How many hoops and forms did they have to fill out to simply play a little music in the Grove? Anyone who would jump through those hoops is already on a down slide or have no future.
Thousands of dollars are earmarked for these projects. It isn't jumping through hoops to be sure the person is a real artists and not selling something the bought in China. You really are a miserable person with all your negative comments aren't you?
I went out around 630p last night and the grove was packed with people. Kinda surprising given that it was a Sunday evening. My folks were visiting and they asked if there was a parade or something haha. We had dinner at jaguar then checked out the new wine spa to see what it was all about. Place looks great but wine prices are quite high. The treatments seemed interesting though.
Grape,
This is clearly nitpicking, but the merchants group has been variously called the Merchants Association and now the Merchants Board, when (I think) the correct name is the Grove Merchants Group. If the latter is correct, it would be helpful for their "branding" if they were called that.
I was wrong to state that if this band willingly jumped through some hoops in order to play they were probably on the down slide. Where I came from, many years ago, as children were free to do whatever without asking permission or filling out a lot of forms---type of life style and none of us every got into trouble with authority. I've turned my back on many organized activites, yet stayed active where freedoms were the standard and as I try to move about and experience freedom to act I run into a pile of paperwork, rules and regulations endlessly so I made that comment in error/emotional.
Hey, if they want to be paid, they need to fill out forms. If they want to work for free, they don't have to. Case closed.
Grapevine, that's an interesting comment. I produced art placing the art in the easement in front of my home so people could view the art for free and I collect no pay and I received 6 code violations for operating a business and it's not "Hey" and it's not "case closed" as if you're some dominating factor in these exchanges---GET IT! You're the one who introduce vulgarity and disrespect into this equation.
Lighten up B-Y!
Jobie you put out such rudeness and crap into the Universe I am not surprised that is what you get back.
Grapevine said January 27, 3:33 "if they get paid they fill out the forms and if they work for free they don't have to" Is this official law, rule or regulation or is this just an opinion by someone at the Grapevine. It's a moot point, but i'ts my very unofficial opinion if that were true there should be a lot of people not only in the Grove, but elsewhere about the U.S. who would be more than willing to play for free in tourist hot spots just to make people smile and/or possibly get known or even see by some promoter walking by or just to practice in front of people and get some feedback. I ask again, is this just some local regulation or rule? Or is this just your opinion?
I don't make the rules here. I report the news. Dave Collins at the BID is in charge of this. If you have any complaints, I suggest you bring them to him.
