Residents ask: "What's up with the new zoning verbiage?"

The following letter went out to homeowners in the area today:

I am being advised by MNU, Miami Neighborhoods United, that an important zoning issue is to be discussed tomorrow at the Planning Advisory Board meeting. It is my understanding, that the City of Miami is amending the Zoning Code, referring to WATERFRONT as BACKYARDS.

Grove civic leaders have been alerted to the wording change as it may apply to the ill-conceived Grove Harbour Marina Building. If this issue is also of concern to you, I urge you to please plan on attending City Hall tomorrow Jan. 21 at 7 pm. If you cannot make it, then please consider contacting your Mayor and City Commissioners for an explanation in the new zoning verbiage.

This edifice will block our water views and as it stands now, is neither meeting zoning/legal requirements for the City of Miami, nor the will of the majority of citizens in Coconut Grove who value the public waterfront. What's up with all of this? You have a right to know.

Maria Freed,
President
Coconut Grove Park Homeowners Association

I was ignorant of this issue until I began reading the Grapevine. I'm appalled that an office building on that site is even being considered. Tar and feathers, anyone?

I copied the Grape's post, added the following comments and e-mailed the Mayor, Mr. Sarnoff and everyone else on the list.

Takes a few minutes, perhaps many readers can e-mail our representatives as well, the more voices are heard, the better. 7pm at City Hall it is!

"Mr. Representative,

This 22,000sqft. Office, Concrete Building, only 22ft away from the water is in direct violation of the Waterfront Master Plan and a utter aberration led by an exclusive minority of special-Interest groups, Money, of course, a minority of Boat owners, etc.

The Vast Majority of Cocoanut Grove Village residents, City of Miami regular visitors and numerous tourists from all over the World are clearly against this Office Building.

It would another obstruct another rare Water View we have left in the Grove.

Mr. Representative, Please try to Walk, run or Bike from Peacock Park to the Rickenbacker Causeway one day, (North Grove), uninterrupted,
you'll see how difficult it is to stay by the Bay, or even see some Water: Impossible in most parts.
Not to mention the Central and South Grove where the Water Front is 99% completely blocked to the General Public)
