Hey Grape,

There is good news and bad news for everyone. It was reported that a contingent of Miami police were sent to DC for the celebration.
BAD NEWS: No parking and lots of parking tickets in Washington.
GOOD NEWS: The Grove is full cause people can park and not be ticketed.
Best wishes to the celebrants at
C's tonight.

Oh I remember the big celebration they had when President Bush was inagurated for his first & second term. I am glad to see Sammy C's is fair & balanced.

I'm actually a very content person - two great kids and a lovely wife, great job that pays well, and a boat on the moorings at the sailing club. Living the American dream, all in all.

Being called a "scrooge" is pretty funny, considering all the belly-aching and gnashing of teeth I've seen from liberals over the last seven years. I can't count how many otherwise pleasant conversations have abruptly ended when someone learned that I was a Republican.

Far from being a "scrooge," I'm generally a live and let live libertarian. But I do get frustrated when reflexive political correctness prevents people from engaging in an honest discussion of quality of life issues in our community.

As for the Obama inauguration - while I don't get the 24-hour press coverage that started at the beginning of the weekend, I respect the man and, unlike my liberal friends over the last 8 years, will gladly accept him as "my President."

Swilp,

This posting was 100% accurate, you have posted many racist views on this blog. Who cares, where you live, how much money you have or where you park your sail boat, its all irrelevant. But I guess it is supposed to make you a better person, please give me a break.

I knew you were Republican....

Be honest swilp, you hate that he got elected,,He's going to be president.. so deal with it. I really enjoy the 24 hour coverage...As a Republican also, I am ashamed of the last 8 years, and for the first time in my life I voted for a Democrat...

Grape,

Why is swilp so arrogant? his house, job, boat...or you kidding me? Is this what the Grove is about ?

I challenge anybody to actually cite a racist remark that I have posted on the comments to this blog, or anywhere else for that matter.

Because, you know, since I don't post anonymously and all, accusing me of posting racist views could be grounds for libel.

Geez swlip, a little thin-skinned there, eh?

For what it's worth, "swlip" seems functionally synonymous with anonymous, if you get my drift.

No, not thin-skinned. I just get tired of anonymous posters making allegations that they can't support. And no, my handle isn't all that anonymous. Anyone with Google.com can pretty easily learn who I am.

Swilp, what is this?? You said this on the merchandise blog? Black entitlements? Your such an open-minded person , WAY TO GO...

I didn't vote for the guy, but Anon's comment reflects one thing that I think we should all hope for as a positive outcome of the Obama presidency.

However, the cynic in me suspects that what will actually happen is that the black "poverty industry" will ratchet up their demands for entitlements.

And this is one issue on which I have to disagree with Blind-Mind. By any objective metric, criminality is much higher in the West Grove. I remember when the Sailing Club tried to extend a youth program to underprivileged kids from the West Grove. Unfortunately, the program had to be killed because the kids (without exception) were stealing or trying to steal everything that wasn't nailed do

Swilp,

I am college educated, and can not get a job no matter what I do here. Maybe its because I do not speak Spanish because some jobs require that here, maybe its because I am not part of the wealthy elite here or maybe its because of the economy, but I am a hard worker and do not want handouts, and I despise some of the comments you posted here. You should be ashamed of yourself, your not better than anyone else on this earth because of your boat or your job...

Anon at 10:45:

Good grief. Where did I claim to be better than anyone? My comments about my job, etc., were in response to someone who called me a "scrooge." I was merely pointing out that I was actually a happy person.

Yeah, unemployment sucks. I've been there. But no country in the world is better at creating opportunities to reinvent yourself. I'm not just saying that; I lived abroad for several years, and know that for a fact.

Anon at 10:39:

I should have written "grievance industry" rather than "poverty industry." But I stand by the statement. Too many black leaders (Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright, etc.) depend on exploiting a sense of grievance among the black population, whereas responsible leaders - like Obama and MLK - challenge people to do better.

I don't see this as a "racist" stance at all. You will find black authors like Shelby Steele, Thomas Sowell, and Deroy Murdock expressing identical views.

Oh, and Anon at 10:39:

I observed the kids stealing from the Sailing Club with my own eyes. They were shockingly brazen about it.
