It was a busy night last night around here

The Grove was quite crowded last night at midnight. It was nice. All the restaurants appeared to be full, CocoWalk was buzzing, the streets were full of people. The lights flickered on the trees, traffic was even backed up a bit. It was nice.

Let's hope that is a vision of what the Grove will be like in 2009. Food and drink and shoppers and art lovers all day and night.

The rap music from Cabana One hit a all time high, last night. We called the Mayfair Hotel and Kathy the front desk clerk pretty much told me to bad so sad, it will continue till 3:00. We then called the downstairs desk operator at the Sonesta and they told me they have called the Police three times to complain. We called the police and at 2:30 they shut down totally all music. Not sure why they didnot go to the 3:00am. Did the Police finally do their job? A rooftop club really is a bad idea and the Mayfair General mgr. Brije Misra is aware of this problem from the start. I realize living in Urban environment is always not going to be quiet, but lets be good neighbors with each other here in the Grove.

Commissioner Sarnoff...Live with it. It was New Year's Eve for Christ's sake! All of us don't want your NEW VISION!

I agree that we are in an entertainment district and should put up with all the noise....but Cabana One takes it to a completely different level. Some of the merchants themselves feel that it is unfair because they are not aloud to have music outside yet Cabana One has it blasting ALL night without a problem

There was a rocking house party with a live band a few houses away from mine in the North Grove last night. They played till 6am.

It was loud, but I would never even think of calling the police - or even complaining. These are our neighbors simply celebrating New Year's Eve. Why be a party pooper?

Get earplugs, or crash the party!

Happy Oh-Nine to you all.

This is ridiculous, if an air conditioner was making too much noise on top of any other building they would be getting citations like crazy.
Neighbors should start protesting in front of Mayfair. I'm sure some of the people that live nearby lived there way before they had Speakers that could get that loud.

If I lived on the other side of US1my property taxes and building maintance would be half of what we are all paying living on South Bayshore Drive. So we expect more bang for our buck from the local authorities. Caban one is NOT a one night problem. It starts on Thursday night, Friday night, & Saturday night. Every Week. If it was a gift of only one night, yes I would have no problem. But since the grand opening it has been going on week after week. Mayfair Hotel be a considerate neighbor to the rest of us owners.

yes, it is not an issue of noise. I think most are all ok with music and people drinking till 5. Cabana One is just on another level with no consideration.

You want to live in downtown Grove and not hear a leaf fall. It is a commercial district. The convenience and prestige of of living so close to an entertainment district has its cost. The concept of Moral Hazard does go both ways. Do you want downtown Grove businesses all to move out and have a quiet residential retirement district here, would you accept this scenario? I would not. My office is by the airport, I am benefiting from the economic magnet the airport is, and the reason I opened a business there, this is like I should start complaining about the air traffic now.

You know what if Cabana One just blasted music on New Years Eve, we could live with it. When it goes on every weekend, we can't live with it. Where was Code when the permits were passed thru the City to have an open air club on a rooftop? Who paid who? This is not acceptable. It is a quality of life issue.

the polarity of the comments
clearly separates who 'lives' in the grove vs who owns a business or
lives outside and wants to come in to play.
(s*** in your own backyard, not mine.)

"new urbanism" = live, work, play.
notice 'live' is 1st and 'play' is last.

when i am at the gym or grocery store and they are blasting "Musak" at me i leave,
when i am in my apartment with the windows closed and i can hear the music, where do i go. property values are going to drop.

the county has been upping the assessed values,
can't pay the taxes as a hotel, convert to condos,
can't pay the taxes as a condo, try to sell drinks like south beach.
succession maybe the only answer.

Wow...its amazing how everyone has so much time on their hands to be writing things like this. Cabana One has done nothing but brought positivity to this community, unlike the trash that fat tuesdays (who plays their music just as loud and just as long) and other cocowalk buisnesses bring. A music problem can be fixed, but is that really the issue here? I am trying to understand the nastiness behind the remarks of wanting a buisness to fail in your own community, its truly very sad. Especially since it's done so many beneficial things such as work with many charities and buisnesses in the community and has brought life to the Grove. Instead of complaining on a blog, why don't you call Cabana One and voice your opinion.

I have called and discussed this noise problem with Hotel Mgr. He promised me that the speakers that were used for the grand opening where lost in by the air frt. company and would be alot smaller and not as loud as what the DJ was using. He totally lied to us and we are so disappointed. The hotel needed a pool and we watched with glee as finally after years of waiting it has arrived. The Grape always complained about the traffic blockage but that was never a problem. Yes a pool is sweet, NOT a Rooftop Club with blasting music. Give us a Break. Check out all the complaints by hotel guests about the loud music in their Mayfair rooms. This club will not be able to survive. Sorry to say, Nikki is out and Combana One is to follow.
