How about a "food crawl"?

Blind Mind told me of a great idea that is happening already in MiMo.

It's sort of a "bar crawl" for restaurants. The restaurants get together one day a week or month or whatever, maybe during the "Recession Decompression" happy hour, but on a separate day would be better, and they have a one day deal on small plates for maybe $2.00 to $5.00 each.

This would take place right at the restaurants. Any small appetizer or special could be prepared for the "food crawl." Signs would be posted with maybe drink specials, too.

I know Focaccia had this incredible Mango Salsa Burger they served only on Strut Day, maybe they could do this at every "food crawl." Other places may want to serve their regular food, just so people get a taste of what they normally serve, but of course the "food crawl" would serve a smaller, hand held portion.

What say? Sylvano? George? Daniel? BID?

The Grove usually has successful bar crawls, so why not a food crawl? You just offer a cheapy app or small dish at a small price. That or maybe there's an up front cost and you get a wristband thats good for bites at all the participating restaurants. Its basically Taste of the Grove inside the restaurants themselves and can be done in the summer months when biz slows or done whenever.

The bottom line is that Grove restaurants, with the exception of a few, really drag ass when it comes to promoting themselves. You have to be in front of the consumer in order to gain recognition. Just look at Geico. Worst commercials in the world and I hate every one. But I remember them because theyre on every 5 seconds.

One issue, possible problem, would be the purpose of this to the restuarants. The "Taste" started out with inexpensive trial portions of restuarant fare but seems to have moved to less food more cost (more profit to the restuarant?). I don't want to sound cheap but this would work if it was reasonable and not an excuse to over-price food for a captive audience which is what the "Taste" is approaching.

Lenny,

I will agree that the costs at the TotG have gotten quite high, regardless of the quality of food. $2-$5 keeps it within reason. Plus, it puts asses in the seats to drink too. At the Taste of the Grove, patrons drink beer from its own sponsored booth. With this concept, patrons drink at the actual restaurants and give them the revenue. And we know that Grovites like their alcohol!

I think that is a fantastic idea. Almost like tapas. So exciting.
