This group really does put the "nut" in CocoNut Grove

strut4

Last night the King Mango Strut group put on Art Nasal, no not Art Basil, Art NASAL, at the Windisch-Hunt Gallery right in the center of town.

The event was held to raise money for the end-of-year King Mango Strut Parade, which is on Sunday, December 28.

Above, you can see Glenn Terry, the Strut's creative director, holding up a mango and a handmade t-shirt, which were for sale.

Theresa Callouri was drawing animal portraits for a couple of bucks, people, too, but I think she got more animals to pose.

At left are Deborah and Bob, all decked out for the event.strut3
That's Kenny with the racey chicken. And Liz Gibson brought Peggy the pooch for a night out, that's Alan Anapu in tiedye.

It seemed as if the whole Grove came out for the event, or at least all the Grove characters. If you weren't there, you missed a fun time and you missed the people who make the Grove the Grove.

This group was singing the theme song, "The Mangobama," sung to the tune of "Do the Locomotion with me." Later on there was a dance lesson.

Here's Glenn Terry making some announcements. It really was a full house -- a great turnout for the great, fun event. The gallery was packed.

Here is AnnaMaria Windisch-Hunt who donated the gallery for the evening's event and that is poet Cara Nusinov with her. The little dog with the beautiful face is my friend Louis' pet, Mugsy.

It seemed that everything that wasn't nailed down was for sale. I hope AnnaMaria had all the expensive paintings nailed down, since they weren't part of the charity event. But you could buy raffle tickets, and drinks and hoola hoop lessons and drawings and even personal songs written just for you. All for just a few dollars. Wine was sold from the box.

Filmmaker Carl Kesser was there selling his new documentary "The Orange Bowl Stadium, Remembering 70 years of Greatness." Part of the proceeds went to the Strut fund.

Bob Deresz played the accordian, he is shown here with Cynthia Shelley. There were people all over the gallery, on the floor, at tables, behind the mic singing and dancing. It was a great Grove evening for a great cause -- a true signature event -- The King Mango Strut.
