The students are revolting -- why?

The students at the Arts and Minds Center on Commodore Plaza were protesting about something yesterday and will be doing it again today after school.

The protest is either for or against "Mr. D." according to their signs. I would normally run out and get photos and the story, but I don't feel like it today. Can someone get photos and email me the story and I'll post it here? Thank you very much.

Mr. D was head of the music department at A & M. One of the best music programs in the county. He was let go last Wednesday for reasons that were absolutely ludicrous. The students I guess wanted to voice their opinion about the matter.

I agree with the comment before me, and what they have said about Mr. D is completely true! Mr. de la Rosa, otherwise better known as Mr.D to his kids, has been a top music educator in Miami-Dade county for 19 years. Directing one of the greatest marching bands in Miami-Dade county at South Miami Senior High School for many years prior to taking on the job to build yet another amazing music program at the Academy of Arts & Minds. He was let go unprofessionally from A&M on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, without prior notice or any sort of agreement. The students at the school who supported him decided to protest every day this week in order to show their disappointment at the lack of thought and tact that was put behind his termination. Two weeks before their winter concert, the students are now teacherless, and they know that a replacement will never bring the quality of education that Mr. D gave them. Their motivation was his great love for his art- music- and the fact that he loved to share it with everyone around him. The students are not protesting to bring him back, but to show that they support him in every way and that they are the ones mostly affected by what has been done.
The teachers that remain at A&M, including Mr. D's wife, have yet to receive contracts from the school, so they are all quite fearful for their own jobs; seeing as they've witnessed a teacher get fired without reason.
The children have lost the leader they followed and admired, the parents are outraged, and all together it has been a great loss.
But, Mr. de la Rosa, I'm sure, is moving on to bigger and better things. If I know him well enough, this is not the last we'll hear from him, and his flawless reputation to build amazing music programs will continue.
