Changes coming to the Art Stroll
February 5, 2009.
The gallery owners feel there are "more attractions" on a Thursday night, and it's the start of the weekend. So far the Saturday Stroll has not brought out the crowds they desired, so I wonder how a Thursday night stroll would work. For one thing, they need more promotion and cooperation with all concerned.
One new option is to tie in the other Grove businesses to the galleries on Stoll night with some sort of discount tokens that could be used from the galleries. They would be used in other Grove businesses on that night. But I think the key is to be consistent and to get everyone to participate and promote it.
Paco from the Butter Gallery agreed to design the logo so that all participating galleries (hopefully all galleries), would display the logo. Flags and banners would also fly at the galleries on "stroll night." Richard Issa from the Chamber is working on permits and such and dealing with the BID.
Bringing so much art back to the Grove is really a great thing. The fact that our village is so into art again is really a thing to be proud of.

Indeed. It's great to see more and more Art on the Streets and Galleries in the Cocoanut Grove Village. Surely some Logistics/Advertisment areas can be improved.
The other day I happened to wander to the second floor by Hooters, by sheer chance, and discovered 2 galleries, one of them was very interesting, with 5 Artists sharing the space with reasonably priced paintings, - they paint right there all the time -, some very good pieces, for different tastes.
Some of these Artists could use some help with more effective advertising techniques. This Blog is a good start.
Carlos.
Thursday nights are not too appealing to me; I have to work the next day. Would rather see it on Fridays. And Thurs. nites bring in the college crowd with UM buses and motorcycles - not the artsy crowd and diners. Gables has an art walk one Fri a month but that shouldn't be a problem.
Well I shall stay open whichever evening is chosen . There are a lot of trial and error examples we could follow or learn from.
Miami Beach attempted the Thursday night and ended up scraping it. The Grove did Wed.
night years ago with lots of PR and entertainment on the streets and it also folded.
What next? How about something new and different, Do we have to copy everyone else and split the pie.
