Another Christmas is over . . .
I noticed a lot of businesses were open in the Grove yesterday early in the day and later into the evening, which was a good thing, since it seemed that tourists were out early and then locals seemed to get out later to get to the movies or get something to eat or just hang out.
As you drive down Main Highway at night, the blue lit trees form a little light tunnel, welcoming you into the Grove.
I was looking for Christmas cactus to give to some neighbors and some businesses that I frequent, but I could not find anything decent, so on Tuesday I ended up at Coconut Grove Florist on Commodore Plaza and I got some really nice poinsettias. They were so nice that I went back on Christmas Eve and got a few more as gifts.
Today is the "Mangobama" dance lesson for Sunday's King Mango Strut at the Windisch-Hunt Gallery -- 3 pm. Bring your dancing shoes, Francesca Terry will be the instructor.

There's also a florist next to Chandi Wine and Spirits in Mayfair. I cant remember the name of the place right now but they really helped me out with some roses when I was in a pinch. Nice women there too.
Her name is Pearl. I actually went there first but the people were quite rude.
I had blogged about Pearl before and I wanted to give them business. Some guys at Paul's sunglass kiosk warned me about the rude guy that works there, but I walked over anyway.
Well, the guy was rude. He refused to help me and told me that they were out of everything. He was the one putting the flowers together. I told him I would take anything, there were flowers all over the store, they obviously weren't out of everything. The place looks like a jungle, if you've ever gone in there.
The two kids at the front desk didn't seem to want to be bothered either. So I went to Coconut Grove Florist and spent hundreds of dollars there since they didn't seem to want any business at the Blond Tulip.
Later on, I saw one of the kids walking down the street and I attmpted to ask him what was up with the rude guy at the flower shop, he didn't want to be bothered either, he turned his back on me and walked away.
I wasn't going to say anything, but since you brought it up . . .
Our Christmas this year was spent traveling from Miami, FL to Carmel, CA. Left Miami at 2:30 PM Eastern and got to bed in Carmel at 1 AM Pacific (4 AM my time). Crazy. Miami-Houston-San Jose then car from San Jose to Carmel. Very nice here, though. As I type I'm looking out over the porch on a clear blue day in sixty degree weather at the Pacific ocean in the distance. Dinner out and a fire in the fireplace on the strenuous schedule tonight.
That sucks, Grape. When I went there it was a Monday and there was only one woman working. She was helpful and sold me some roses cheap since they were the few she had left while waiting for replacement stock. It sucks when one bad apple spoils the whole damn bunch but it happens...
