Where is the meter reader when you need her?
Many people have been complaining about all the parked cabs up and down Virginia Street near the Mayfair Hotel.
I'm not sure, but I think there are two spots available for them, which you see here, but on many days, there are as many as seven or eight cabs all lined up in marked metered spots. They don't feed the meters and they aren't told to move by the meter readers. Why?
The meter readers are ticketing everyone else in sight, including the Sysco and other delivery guys and even people making a quick pick up at a gallery or restaurant, but they allow the taxis to take up spots practically 24 hours a day.
The taxi drivers know they are wrong. When I ask them if they have put money in the meter, they sheepishly tell me they are about to. So they apparently know they are supposed to.

Hey take it easy being a cabbie is a rough and tough job in miami give these guys a break..
I have politely asked them to move when there are no other spaces and I have been told, in not such a nice way, that they don't have to move for anyone! It's extremely annoying to not be able to find a place to park when there are 5 cabs in metered parking spaces.
They need to distribute these cabs throughout the other hotels, Mayfair does not need 2 cab spaces that attract 3 or 4 more cabs. It turns into a cab fest. Put them on Florida Ave. or Rice St. or over by the Ritz or Sonesta. The Bookstore, Kinkos, and Starbucks need quick easy parking. HOW DO WE GET THIS DONE?
To be honest I love the Grove with a sidewalk stroll to window shop and grab a bite to eat, but there are just so many other places that I don't have to shell out a penny for parking.
Most of the errands/leisure walks most of us do in the commercial-center Grove can be mostly done with a bike. So most should stop whinning and mostly bike!
Now let's hear: 'when I'm carrying my 2 ton UPS package, 20 garmets, doggy bag, yadda yadda yadda onto my Hummer, I have to have an empty spot waiting for me for FREE. Ever wonder how they do it in Amsterdam?
Most of us who work and can't do our errands leisurely have to rush to Kinkos or the Bookstore and need quick parking and don't want to compete with the cabs.
Yesterday, Tuesday, there were 5 cabs parked on Virginia St. at 2pm in that one block area and I could not find a parking space. What can be done about this? Is this a police issue or a Miami Parking Authority issue? Someone le tme know so we can get some action.
